As a kid I was enamored with that ballerina ostrich from Fantasia. So much so I made her my imaginary friend for years (I named her Lydia). I have many fond memories of childhood adventures with her.
A few days ago someone pointed out the ballerinas in that segment have the plumage of males.
It probably wasn't Disney's intention to do a scene featuring a flock of trans female ostrich ballerinas. But on a personal level I just felt weirdly sentimental about the idea, as if I'd learned something new about an old childhood friend. It made me want to tell her it didn't change a thing.
When you learn something unexpected about someone you care about, chances are they're in a vulnerable place. Whatever conversations may follow, make sure to lead with unconditional love. That, more than anything else, is what will make the world better. 💙
Btw, here's the segment I'm referring to for anyone who may be unfamiliar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RGrCyDAVuk
