I guess I don't mind more than two, it really just depends for me how well the design flows and fits together.
Most furries are kind of like human+fuzzycritter+randommarkings in general, so I think as long as it's cohesive you can conceivably borrow from a lot of animals and have it work. It's the jigsaw looking ones that tend to look lessgood to me. Though I guess there are exceptions in both realms.
