The lifting bolt technique immediately upon introduction already has a wide array of ways it can be used. As demonstrated here, just one enemy can be used as a wrecking ball to quickly drive the whole squad in complete disarray with as little as one move. Now, imagine this combined with chain lightning. You'd have a wide range to work with, especially when you want to launch the lot off a convenient ledge after knocking the rest down and disarming them.

And yes, there are sometimes other steps to sub-abilities (at least some so far. I could go for all of them if possible).
