Today I tried a new way of painting digitally, which is much closer than painting traditionally and looks much more painterly! wolfwings was my guinea pig this time around, this is actually a character I designed for him!
Unfortunately this way of working really hurt my hands, which is a bummer because I really like the way this looks. I'm going out on a limb and taking commissions for this painterly type of commission to see how well I do when I practice them more, but slots are really limited because of that pain.

Wow wow wow, absolutely stunning! I think this new technique really, really paid off. It does have that exquisite painterly feel to it. Too bad it is so stressful on your hand - what type of movements are you using, and where exactly in the hand does it hurt?
Also, do you work with your tablet on an incline or on a flat surface? Sometimes inclining it can help. There are also supplements you can take to help prevent/repair damage in your tendons/ligaments in your hands (thusly allowing you to work more).

Wow, this looks awesome. I do love the overall look of the new painting technique. Though it does give up some of the sharpness of the details that you get in a lined picture, this looks much more natural and realistic. I really love the feel that this painterly, unlined technique gives the overall image.
And the character is ADORABLE. :)
