The Sisters of Battle living with Kurisu, showing their dedication and faithfulness to the God-Emperor of Mankind, constructed a new cathedral in His honor. Their new sacred rituals were performed bi-weekly within its halls. ts doors were always open to those in need, not just the Sororitas themselves, and the battle-priestesses comforted many souls in pain.
Fluff aside, this is a project I've been wanting to do ever since I saw Games Workshop's Imperial Cathedral. Mine is nowhere near as impressive of course, and not just because I used foamcore as a building material due to the prohibitive costs of using GW plastic ruins kits to make something this large.
I built it in two sections, and together it is around five feet long at the base - the structure itself is closer to three feet and some-odd inches long from tower to tower.
Still to be added are the cathedral's doors and Fleur-de-Lis symbols - light wooden ones if I can get my hands on some - to the towers. In addition, I'd like to add some detail to the interior, as it looks a bit bland - though the altar helped that very much on one end.
I haven't quite figured out what to add to the interior yet. Initially I was thinking many rows of small model pews, which might work if I added them in sections with gaps of a couple of inches between sections.
An alternative would be to add the pews along the sides, rather than on the floor facing the altar. I'd slope them upward to the wall, so all can see what's going on. I rather like that idea...
As this piece is intended for gaming, I unfortunately cannot add a roof to it - at least not a permanent one - despite my initial intention to do so. Adding catwalks along the outer walls, much as I like the idea of raised firing positions, would also not be very conducive to gaming, because leaning over the wall to see the things inside is hard enough on my back.
The foamcore ruins on the corners are separate pieces.
To paint this monster after it's done, I'm first going to coat the whole thing in plaster to protect the foam, then sand it to a fine grain, then prime it with spraypaint, then paint on the base color with some sort of housepaint, then drybrush it with a lighter shade. The floor inside will be painted some different color. The base outside will be painted brown and then flocked.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Hm, it's a little too big. It dominates the table, and the high walls make gaming very difficult.
I still haven't finished it.
I've since made a more manageable one. About 1 foot in length, and I think 8 inches wide. Much more manageable, and it still looks like it could hold a full squad of Space Marines or Battle Sisters. Maybe a little too small, but it could easily be a smaller chapel suitable for gaming.

It likely won't be finished at this point. It's much too large to be used. The walls are much too high, severely impeding vision, measuring, casualty removal, etc.. If I feel the need to have a battle inside a Cathedral, I may end up having the battle ENTIRELY within the Cathedral, and simply make terrain - like sections of rows of pews, an altar, or what have you - to represent the interior of a Cathedral.
Maybe I'll take it apart and re-use the parts or something. It'll take more thought.
Oh, and storage of it is a bloiting pain.
