You can do this with oxen or heavy draft horses IRL. The trick is that once it gets going it's not that hard to keep moving (thanks, Newton!) at a steady pace for miles upon miles. Such a "train" won't win any prizes for speed but it'll get you there eventually.
Circuses used to move like that before first trains and then trucks made things a bit more convenient.

Huh. I think I've only ever seen one wagon to a set of draft animals, myself.
I'd think that stopping a wagon train like that, especially if the ground isn't level, would be problematic.
I've seen several hay wagons linked together behind one tractor. Hay wagons don't have brakes, so this is only useful for bringing them in from the field.
