One thing I often come back to is to try and do some facial expression practices on my character.
Most of the times I end up drawing pictures of EC, he comes off as a very stern, very angry or otherwise comes with the "always angry" eyes, so to spice it up a bit, I try to learn some more expression to go with it.
Along with that, another difficulty curve is to try and somehow make the wide-open mouths when yelling, yawning or other such motions with a character who has a long snout instead of a flat face. I kind of have to try and practice the way how the jaw opens and closes what with what kinds of muscles and tendons move them around (even if I won't necessarily go make anatomy practice on face muscles).
Plus: giving excessive exaggerations is always fun and comedic~
