2024 has some and gone, and boy what a year it has been! The "Year of Shadow" as Sonic fans call it.
First, the movies I saw this year:
Migration
IF
Despicable Me 4
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
The Wild Robot
Red One
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (three times)
Mufasa
And here are the concerts I saw:
PAW Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure in Springfield, MA on 1/14
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in Uncasville, CT on 4/12
Sonic Symphony Concert in New York City, NY on 6/08
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in Washington, D.C. on 9/07
The Lion King Musical in Hartford, CT on 11/20
Okay, talk about a roller coaster of a year for me! Let's start off by recapping December 2023. My mom was admitted to the hospital and it turns out she has COPD. Good news is, she's still able to move around on her own, so it's not as severe as we thought.
Also, in December, at work there was a bid on the corkboard had a bid for a new route. I was interested, I researched the route and I bid for it. Since I was the only bidder, I won it. On January 24th, I started my new route. It's a lot heavier than my old one (my old one had between 200-300 cases per day, this new one has 500-600 cases a day) but it's mentally less-stressful. Plus, because of the extra cases, my paychecks have increased!
Now for some sad news, I got an email from my Krav Maga instructor saying he was closing the school. On February 22nd, the school closed. However, I tried to remain in contact with the others. One of the other students (who just recently got his 6th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo) is starting his own Kenpo Martial Arts school and he's been frequently asking me to join. It has been interesting and a fun learning curve for me.
January 27th, I replaced ALL the light switches in my house with "smart" switches that I can control with my voice.
February was a hard month for me and my finances. I had to put my truck through a myriad of tune ups and repairs so it could pass inspection. It cost me over $4,000, but my truck runs very well. It'll last me several more years. But the cost put a huge toll on my finances and I had a HUGE scare regarding my money, but that will be important later on.
March 27th, my Aunt Noreen Banks (nee Perreault) passed away at the age of 64. She was a wonderful and caring person, very loving and nurturing. She wasn't in good heath, diagnosed with polio at a young age, but she fought hard. I miss you, Auntie Nor.
At the end of March, I called a towing company to pick up my blue motorcycle for repairs (which got trashed back in 2022). They later said the repairs would cost well over $5,000 which I wasn't willing to pay. Instead, I gave them the title, took my license plate off, and never saw my blue 2009 Honda Fz6 ever again.
April 12th was possibly the BEST day of my life this year! After twice postponing the concert, I finally went to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT to see Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band! Why was this concert so special? I WAS IN THE FRONT PIT!!! That's right! I was literally ten feet away from Bruce Springsteen! At one point during the concert, he POINTED AT ME and we made EYE CONTACT! At the end of the show, last two songs, I told one of the pit staff that I was a fan of him since I was a toddler, so she led me to the VERY FRONT of the stage! I came within a few feet of Bruce Springsteen! WHAT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!!! (In fact, I had SO MUCH FUN that I later purchased ANOTHER "pit seat" concert, but this time I'm going with my parent's best friend John "Uncle Johnny" Heine, another devoted Springsteen fan.)
One week later, on April 19th, I went to a local dealership, picked out a new motorcycle, made phone calls, signed papers, took out a loan, and became the owner of a white 2023 Kawasaki Z400 motorcycle! I named her "Silver" because of all the white.
In May, I got a random message on Facebook from my ex-best friend Matt saying what a horrible person I was. I didn't reply back, I just quickly blocked him before he had the chance to block me. I had to drop all contact with him before he attacks me again.
The weekend of June 8th was a fun one. After purchasing tickets, I went to New Jersey to meet my friend
jayfoxfire Jay FoxFire to see Sonic Symphony in New York City! June 8th, I drove out of Massachusetts, through Connecticut, through New York City, and into New Jersey to met Jay and her mother. Both were VERY nice and they let me sleep in their guest room upstairs. Lovely house they had, very "artistic" if I say so myself. We had McDonalds for lunch and we headed to the United Palace for the Sonic Symphony Concert. WE HAD A BLAST! She even gave me "Shadow ears" for my head, and we had our own light sticks. Once the concert was over, they took me to a Wawa for food, came home, Jay and I drew some pictures, watched some TV, and I went to bed. Waking up the next morning, Jay cooked me an omelet for breakfast, and I was on my way back home. We fist-bumped and I drove all the way back through New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, and back in Massachusetts.
Two weeks later, my cousin Brittany was getting married. I video taped her wedding. It was fun.
Unfortunately, some sad news. July 19th, we got word at work that my favorite employer Garrett has resigned from Hood. Out was out of the blue. Sucks because he was the "voice of reason" for all of us drivers. As much as I miss him, his replacement is another great guy that we all get along with.
Then... something happened in late August. One side of my face went limp and was paralyzed. On September 2nd, after work, I drove to the Urgent Care Center who then took me to the hospital. For the first time I rode in an ambulance, they stuck a needle in my arm, and returned the hospital I was born at! They ran some tests on me to see why half of my face was paralyzed. Blood work, EKG, CAT scans, they thought I had a stroke. However, in the end, it turns out I have Bell's Palsey. They said it would take roughly three to six months to fully heal.
Still, having Bell's Palsey didn't stop me! Later that week, EARLY in the morning on September 6th (like roughly 3am) Uncle Johnny and I hit the road to Washington, D.C.! We drove through Connecticut (stopped by a Donut Delight I used to deliver too on my old route), drove through New York City, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and at the YOTEL Hotel in D.C. There, we explored the tourist sights, called and invited my aunt Cathy (who lives in D.C.) to have dinner with us, and went to sleep.
September 7th, Uncle Johnny and I got up, had breakfast, and toured D.C. more. Then we went to National's Park for the Bruce Springsteen concert! It was great being in the pit, but still far from the stage. Still, it was a great concert!
September 8th, we checked out of the hotel and drove all the way through Maryland, Delaware, and into a Bed & Breakfast at Spring Lake, New Jersey! There, we walked around and toured the Jersey Shore. He told me the history of when he lived there and the activities he and my dad did in the 1980's. We even stopped by the famous intersection of E Street and 10th Avenue! Late that night we ate at a wonderful Italian restaurant and walked around Asbury Park, even stopping by the famous Wonder Bar and Stone Pony where Bruce used to play.
September 9th, Uncle Johnny took me to have breakfast at a local place he and his friends used to hang out. Then we stayed at the Jersey Shore and swam on the beach, the same beach he and my dad used to hang out at when they were much younger. I collected sand in a glass bottle to give to my dad. Sadly, I had to leave... BUT, one the drive back, I had to stop by my friend Jay's house
jayfoxfire to say hi to them! It was nice seeing them again and seeing Jay doing her bead artwork. After that, I left and headed back home. WHAT A VACATION THAT WAS!!! And my Bell's Palsey did NOT stop me from having so much fun!
Okay, remember the "scare" I had regarding my money? I couldn't get it over a few thousand a month and pay off my credit cards. It didn't help that my parents "decided" to stop paying me rent. However, I had a great credit score, so in early September, I went to my bank and I took out a $25,000 loan. To their surprise, I got approved in 22 minutes! That was a record! Anyway, this loan REALLY helped me out! I'm paying off my bills fully with much left over, and I'm in financial control now.
By the first week of October, my Bell's Palsey was GONE! The hospital said it would last three to six months... I was FULLY HEALED within four weeks!
October, after YEARS of planning, I FINALLY got my show "The Optimistic Sonic Fan" on YouTube! It's a review show where I review Sonic material. I hope it gets great views.
October 29th, my birthday, I baked myself Baked Alaska.
On November 20th, I went to The Bushnell in Hartford, CT to see "The Lion King Musical" and, despite it was a very close copy of the movie, it was still entertaining.
December... wow! What a month for the movies! I saw "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" in theaters three times (a personal tradition of mine) and later I saw "Mufasa" which wasn't that bad. My biggest fear was the portrayal of Shadow as villainous, a carbon-copy of the game SA2, and that the movie would bomb and be the franchise's downfall. I was GLAD I was WRONG on ALL of those!
That was my 2024! What an amazing year it was! I hope 2025 is just as good. I got big plans for it!
