This is the continuation of the mangrove swamp adventure of these two foxes, Ava and Minp. After successfully rescuing Ava from the awfully deep and sinky mudhole, they wrapped up their swamp expedition and began their journey home. The sun was still high, casting a bright glow over the swamp’s dense greenery, and the cool breeze air was filled with the sounds of distant chirping insects and croaking frogs.
As they reached the outskirts of the swamp, they stumbled upon a curious-looking cave that immediately piqued their interest. Its entrance was framed by jagged rocks, partially concealed by thick vines, and a faint, eerie draft wafted out, carrying with it the scent of damp earth and moss. The darkness beyond the threshold seemed to beckon them in.
“What do you think is in there?” Ava asked, her voice tinged with excitement and a hint of apprehension.
“You” Minp replied with a chuckle. The joke is not funny for her. Only Minp is laughing about it. Apart from that, he conjured a glowing orb of light with a flick of his paw, the sphere hovering above his head and casting a warm, steady glow that illuminated the path ahead.
As they stepped inside, the cave revealed a rocky interior glistening with a strange, slimy sheen. The walls seemed alive, coated with a viscous substance that shimmered faintly under Minp’s light. The ground beneath their paws was uneven, with occasional patches of the slippery slime making their footing precarious.
Minp, being well-versed in exploration, immediately recognized the peculiar environment. “Its a slime cave!” he is soo excited to see it. Its been a while since he got to step in this case.
“It’s… slimier than I expected,” Ava remarked, eyeing the glowing patches that dotted the walls and floor. Despite their sparse distribution, the faint bioluminescent glow added an otherworldly beauty to the cave’s eerie atmosphere.
They continued deeper, their path narrowing as the rocky walls closed in around them. The air grew cooler and more humid, and their footsteps echoed softly in the confined space. However, their exploration soon came to an anticlimactic end as they reached a dead end.
“Well, that’s disappointing,” Ava said, glancing around.
“Not every adventure leads to treasure,” Minp replied with a shrug. “Let’s head back.”
As they retraced their steps, a sudden, ominous cracking sound broke the silence. Both foxes froze, their ears twitching as they tried to pinpoint the source of the noise.
“Stop moving!” Minp commanded, his voice firm. Ava obeyed instantly, her heart racing. The cracking subsided, leaving an unsettling stillness in its wake. Minp began to speak, his tone cautious.
“Okay, so first we have to cra—”
Before he could finish, the ground beneath them gave way with a deafening rumble. The two foxes plummeted into a hidden section of the cave, their surprised cries echoing through the darkness. They twisted instinctively in midair, landing with a soft, wet thud on an unexpected surface.
Gloorp!
They found themselves thigh-deep in a massive pit of thick, jelly-like slime. The substance quivered and rippled with their movements, its gelatinous surface glowing faintly in the dim light. Ava and Minp exchanged wide-eyed looks as they bobbed up and down, the slime’s elasticity making it feel like a giant, sticky trampoline.
Ava’s lips curled into a wry smile. “Well, I guess we’ve found the source of the slime.”
Minp chuckled, though his voice carried a hint of unease. “If only the floor here were a bit more stable.”
Their amusement quickly faded as they realized the slime was steadily pulling them deeper. Within moments, it had reached their waists. Although the substance wasn’t as sticky as the mud from their earlier adventure, its thick, viscous consistency still made movement quite difficult.
Ava tried to wade through it, her legs churning beneath the surface. For every inch she gained, the slime dragged her down three more. Frustration mounted as she glanced down, noting how freely her legs moved yet how ineffective her efforts were. She could see the dark depths below, the occasional glint of debris from the collapsed floor buried within the slime.
Determined to try another approach, Ava leaned back, attempting to distribute her weight and pull her legs free. Before she could fully execute her plan, Minp’s teasing voice broke the silence.
“That wouldn’t be as fun,” he said with a mischievous grin. Unlike Ava, Minp appeared entirely unbothered by their predicament. He rested his hands on the slime’s surface in an attempt to stay afloat, but the gelatinous substance continued to engulf him even his hands, forcing him to pull his arms free with a soft squelching sound.
“I have a better idea to show you,” he announced confidently.
Ava raised an eyebrow. “What, another one of your pointless tricks?” She knew Minp’s penchant for playful experiments in sticky situations, and though his antics often frustrated her, she couldn’t deny the thrill of their adventures. After all, he always managed to save the day in the end.
“This isn’t pointless,” Minp retorted, his smirk widening. “I learned it from Vin. The real Vin, not his shark or dog form.”
Ava watched nervously as the slime crept higher, reaching her chest. She kept glancing downward, unsure if she was still sinking. What she didn’t realize, however, was that she had already reached her buoyancy point. All she needed to do was remain still, but her cautious instincts kept her vigilant. Resting her slimy hands on the surface, she tried to gauge if the movement had truly stopped.
“Admiring your flotation devices?” Minp quipped, noticing her gaze.
“Just making sure,” Ava shot back. “Unlike you, I actually have some, so maybe you should be more worried.”
Minp chuckled, noting that he, too, had sunk to chest level, though he seemed calm. Unbeknownst to him, like Ava, he had reached his buoyancy point and was no longer sinking. “If this were truly dangerous, I wouldn’t be this relaxed,” he reassured her. “Now, where was I? Ah, yes.”
Reaching into the slime, he retrieved a sturdy stick and held it up. “What if I told you I could turn this stick into a tree in just a few minutes?”
Ava’s expression turned skeptical. “hmm, maybe.”
“This slime is rich in nutrients,” Minp explained. “Using my power, I can channel that nutrient rich slime into the stick and accelerate its growth a thousandfold.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Ava asked. “Drain the pit or climb out on your magic tree?”
“Whichever happens first,” Minp replied, already focusing his energy. Small green fireballs materialized around his hands as he closed his eyes in concentration. The faint glow of the fireballs reflected off the slime, casting flickering shadows on the cave walls.
“Are you sure this gonna work?” Ava asked, her tone skeptical yet hopeful.
“Yep” Minp said with unwavering confidence.
Ava smirked. “If it doesn’t, I’ll swim out and leave you here to enjoy your slime bath alone. I know you can’t do that without your fancy flippers, and it’d be fun to watch you struggle for once.”
Will Minp’s plan succeed, or will Ava have to find her own way out? Stay tuned on next chapter which will be out at any time, any day, any year or any decades...
