Some of the goodies received for my final day at the water plant, Forgot to add the Yeti travel mug, which was personalized. I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. Made it this far without it.

I can't remember where this 'Tradition' hails from?
Growing-up, we gifted bladed weapons (Knives, tomahawks, spears, even arrows/bows). I was always taught to give anyone 'Gifting/Giving' me a blade/edge weapon, a penny, otherwise our relationship would be severed somewhere down the road.
If you're already 'Exiting: Stage Right!' then I suppose there's nothing left to worry about?

Yes, I've heard that bladed weapons given as gifts were symbolically "cutting" the relationship, or could do so if the recipient didn't "buy" the blade with a token amount of money.
Twice I've gotten blades as gifts, and I'm not sure if the givers meant the symbolism. My husband gave his groomsmen Swiss Army knives simply because we thought they were good, useful gifts. And I had given my dad a Swiss Army knife as a souvenir when I returned from England. He gave me a little Buck pen knife that a friend had given to him, (saying he did not need another knife because he had my Swiss Army Knife), and I still have it literally on me right now.
I think I heard about the "unlucky" connotations much later on.
