Ricky and Skye have known each other since they were in grade school together, despite their somewhat contrasting personalities and Skye's reputation for being a serious weirdo; it's really more so that Skye just took an interest in Ricky because he was willing to indulge with her rather than mock or criticize her for her weird ideas, and he doesn't really think any lowly of Skye... plus, they do share some interests, like an interest in cars and mechanics
They're close friends, but not romantically interested in each other, seeing each other as more like a brother and sister type thing (they're just not each other's type); Ricky being Skye's friend was often a source of conversation, like "how can you be friends with that weirdo?" and "What has she been talking about lately?"
