The world of Touhdee mimics our world, but it doesn't work the same way. There's a sun - but the sun is a dragon. Most people on Touhdee don't actually know that the sun is a dragon. Their science tells them that the sun is like our sun - a gigantic mass of burning gas. But it's actually a dragon, and it's one of the dragons that built the original iteration of the world that became Touhdee, and decided to stick around as an energy source for the world.
Every year the sun "goes dark" for a few months, it's very regular and expected and is treated like winter is treated here. I haven't gotten to deciding why scientists of Touhdee don't find this frightening, but they do find it a tantalizing enigma and continue to try to properly, scientifically, explain it. Folklore has it's own stories - the sun is stolen, the sun is eaten, the sun has died and is being reborn.
The truth of it is, the dragon in the sun regularly takes "vacation time" to visit family and friends throughout the cosmos, and to recharge their energy and take a breather. It's hard work being a sun.
