My piece for the Spyro 25th Anniversary Zine!

The artists were asked to represent one game from the Spyro the Dragon library. I decided to represent the first Spyro game I've ever played, one that forever lives on in our hearts but not necessarily because it's a good game - the 2002 classic, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.

Everybody hates on Enter the Dragonfly and there a lot of very valid reasons to hate that game but I, personally, just can't bring myself to hate it. I've 100%ed that game multiple times. There's an odd charm to the janky facsimile of the PS1 Spyro games. Back when I was a kid, I certainly didn't care, and as an adult...I know it's crap but I treat it like a bird with a broken wing. "Aww, it's trying so hard!" I coo to the game as it freezes on itself.

I'm also still of the belief that the concept of Ripto getting so enraged that he turns into a giant dinosaur monster and, now lacking in most of his intelligence in his new form, tries to club Spyro to death rather than attacking with precision spells is an S-tier idea and that they should use it in a future Spyro release. One that isn't so riddled with glitches.
