From my write-up:
"The most famous predator on Cybertron is the wily, fast and ferocious 'Turbofox', a veritable living engine which has only its cunning in common with the small mammal its translated name is derived from.
Turbofoxes prefer to be chased and eluding their hunters to confronting them – some scientists even believe the animals actually enjoy it – , which is a good thing, because they are one of the few life forms that can physically overpower most Transformers. Turbofox hunting is an elite sport practiced by people who like to think of themselves as sophisticated, as it places enormous demand on the hunter. A turbofox hunt can easily last an Earth year. The purpose of the hunt is to come close enough to the fox to touch it, photograph it and return sufficiently intact to brag about it."
Turbofoxes were originally conceived by Bob Budiansky in a single throwaway mention in the character file for Mirage; Mirage was an upper-class rich bot who did not particularly like fighting in the war and would much rather be 'hunting turbofoxes with his high-priced friends'. This was back in the days the Transformers were really still half-vehicle, half-robot (I kind of miss that) and Cybertronian stuff just was Earth stuff with some mechanical term affixed. AFAIK nobody really ever depicted what a 'turbofox' looked like until IDW comics, and frankly I don't like what they did (IE, just a mechanical fox, proportionate to Transformers.). This version leans more on some lines from a science fiction novel which referred to a 'fox hunt' on an alien planet; except the fox is some massive beast, and a girl reflects she can hardly believe stories about fox hunts back on old Earth since it seems so mean to hunt such a small, inoffensive animal.
For similar reasons, and because killing animals for fun is not in any sense heroic or classy, I reframed it.
