Interesting that the eye is a similar color to the jewels. Were you trying to reinforce the idea that they only appeal to the eye and so are superficial and not rewarding in a deeper way?

Love the way they're draped over the tail.

I wanted the eyes to mirror the color of the jewels, so the gryphon was almost a part of the jewels, 'consumed' by greed.

I love the detail and care that goes into these feathers you paint. How do you fix the two feathers together and keep the bars from separating?

I spray the feathers first with workable fixative, which helps keep the veins from separating (but you can still pull them apart). To attach the two feathers, I use a bookbinding adhesive that's acid-free and archival, so it won't eat away at the feather.

You know, I was trying to think of these different methods you could use to glue them together, and I would have never guessed bookbinding adhesive. Makes sense, though!
