After the 1995 Senshū Bank and general financial crisis was spurned by cyber-terrorists, hacktivists, and criminals with strong Yakuza and military ties, the Prefectural Assembly elected to strengthen and reorganize the NPA into a stronger security agency more capable of rapidly and preemptively responding to threats. Along with much criticized legal reform came the foundation of a militarized arm of the police. Folding the SAT in with other high tech elements within security forces, the Prefectural Assembly founded the PAPF (Prefectural Assembly Police Force) and immediately directed heavy funding to training and arming this rapid response team. Highly trained in current generation urban warfare tactics, CQC, and even parkour, when combined with the cutting edge tech of their equipment they are a threat that would bring any enemy of the Assembly to its knees.
Adopted in 1999 after a lengthy four year weapons trial, the PM-99 RAK is a continuation of the Polish PM-63 RAK. Chosen for its firing rate, its strengthened design, the compact nature of the weapon, and its integral suppression, the PAPF ordered a lot of two thousand PM-99 RAK sub machineguns. Before long these designs were also integrated with targeting technology developed Toshiba, leading to the updated PM-99D KANIZA, the D added for Denshi (Electronic), and RAK changed to KANIZA to signify the new Japanese production of the arms, the design being licensed to Howa Heavy Industries in 2001. Though still requiring a wired connection to the headset's targeting computer, this integration allows for the user's HUD to display where the barrel is pointing, its POV, an ammunition count, a firing rate, as well as the heat of the barrel.
I got hopped up on way too much drill n' bass and Neotokyo (the game) and created this art piece because I wanted to get a feel for "low-tech" Cyberpunk aesthetics... and out of that and some random brain racking (RAKing???) came this! I wanna do more random weird design stuff with this. Also, if you don't know what Neotokyo is, play it!!! It's a really good Source game and deserves way more love than it's gotten sdhfghsdfjghjsd
