The Lamp is a medieval arabic oil lamp made of damascus steel, containing a spiritual being that brings requests into reality to whoever has cleaned it the last time.
in other words; he can make wishes come true.
the being in question is higly interesting in that, notonly does he seem to be sentient, but also has a sense of humor, agency, and somewhat decent social skills, having made friends with several professors and boardmen in Miskatonic.
he can however, only bring three wishes to every single person. it's a rule he has never broken so far. (as we know)
he can however still interact to people who has made their three wishes.
He is arguably, Miskatonic University's biggest asset, but his twist is that his intermeration is law. he has a habit of making, ESPECIALLY wishes he sees as selfish or destructive, open to interperation. especially if he think it's an opportunity for a punchline of sorts.
because of this, and the boards policy of using magic as a last resort, it is decided that he should not be used to gather resources or knowledge that he can't share directly.
He has thought shared a few anectodtes that does give us a image of what types of wishes he tends to grant:
"Have you ever gotten people who wished for the world to end?"
"Yes many times. i just do what i always do. i poof them out of excistance. makes no difference to them!i had to vipe out many cults in my time."
His sence of humor has also had created some... bizarre results... but also benign.
"Genie, did you grant a student three wishes?"
"*Snicker*... maybe. what did he think?"
"Did you give him two 6 dm tall fridge magnets shaped like P's, a 8 dm long cucumber, and a 2 meter long pencil-shaped ice sculpture?"
"Oh that guy? yeah. *snicker* he looked angry for getting what he requested."
"Genie, serious question... did you intentionally misinterperet it?"
"You should've seen his face when i made the sculpture. funniest face i've seen in the last 1267 years!"
Despite our efforts however, he still is ellusive about how he was created.
"Soooo... how were you created?"
"some day some wizard looked at my lamp and thinked... what... if..."
"...what if what?"
"I dunno. you tell me."
