After the first couple of weeks, I got to say, living in the 2003 world the TNMT does have its adrenaline moments. Unlike the 1987 show that seems more campy at best, this one has more in your face action. And as that version of April, it was pretty much night and day. Now I was going through with more risk taking action then the previous April and fighting along side the turtles more then the 1987 counterparts. It was really an exciting experience then expected.
I was at Splinter's dojo as I was practicing my sword technique in private. After the last mission, I need to improve on my combat as the foot soldiers are getting more and more aggressive then before. Hmph... Guess living in this world does has its disadvantages. The same can be said with the body I possess as I can feel a bit of ache and pains in an older body. Granted April in her early twenties, but I feel like I am pushing fifty with the fights I had to take part in. Maybe if I am younger, I can be more flexible with my combat.
Then it hit me.
I have the ability to going through one TNMT world after the next as a different April O'Neil ever since opening that comic and after going to three different realities, I can tell that everything blended together. And while the older April can live with the turtles and going on missions, the younger April has more range and has the body to do things the adult body can manage. And the one April that seems to be more versitile in her age is the April from the 2012 show.
I rarely watch the show on Nick at the time, but after watching the show through Hulu, Youtube, and Paramount+, I started to love it. From the story, characters, animation, it was what I believe to be the best TNMT show out there. That, and the fact that they used some anime elements that Titans, Totally Spies, and Kappa Mikey did. Okay, maybe not Kappa Mikey but you get the idea. And of course, there was this April on the show that has more of a grounded characteristics. A high schooler and a ninja in training, that's one way in making a character like her. And of course, she always has that iconic Tessen, a fancy looking Japanese fan that acts as a weapon with the sharp blade at the end for such accurate slices and throws. If there is one April I would want to be, it would be that one.
So with my unique ability and knowledge of the TNMT world, I decided to become the April of the 2012 show and closed my eyes envisioning her. It was then, I could feel my katana getting lighter and looked on to see the blade shrinking into a dagger. That is before I see it darkening to black with a sharp blade on the top, opening up automatically revealing a fan that has Lotus flower in the middle and little flowers around it. It was then that I realized that it was the Tessen that the 2012 April uses on the show.
Satisfied by it, I decided to give the weapon a tray and swing the fan around. Almost instantly, I was performing with grace and style as my knowledge of this weapon entered my head. But that's not all, I can feel my body taking shape while the world around me melted into a swirl of colors and spin around my dancing body.
During my performance, I could feel my body youthening as I left my twenties and into my mid teens. My red hair returned to its natural orange color as the bun grew out and became a small ponytail as a yellow headband magically appeared on top of my head. Even my clothing altered to match the 2012 version of April. My purple tank top return to yellow as the bottom hem grew down my waistline, covering up my belly button. Black sleeves grew out of the yellow sleeves and extended down to my mid arms as a black collar popped out of my yellow top, making me look like I wore a black undershirt. I can feel my cargo pants riding up my legs and tightened around me, becoming blue jean shorts that's not so short, but short enough to make me look like a proper teen. But black legging came out the ends of the shorts and grew down to my feet to cover my legs. And my sneakers lost the laces and expanded and grew into a pair of long black boots. What makes this change unique is that my body proportions have altered on me. My feet looked a little comically big with my boots and my face was rounding out unlike the angular look the past Aprils have. Yes, I might look strange, but my animated body was getting more computer generated to help fit my alien body. So it evened out nicely.
As my body finished changing, the blended colors darkened and took form into a girmmy streets of New York that looks more animated then the comic version. But to me, I felt like its just right for me. As I finished with my performance, I tossed the fan right and it spun like a shuriken and a spin like a boomerang, taking out a line of bottles and cans that were placed on the dumpster. Grabbing the Tessen when it returned, I opened my blue eyes and realized that I have done. I am now the April living in the 2012 world.
Checking myself out, I was amazed at what I had become. With such youth and vigor, I can accomplish so much more then that of my older versions. I flipped, dance, and spin, celebrating the return of my youth as April O'Neil of 2012.
Just then I hear the classic 1987 TNMT ringtone and took out my the Shellphone from my pocket. That's when I see Donatello's name and face on it. Curious, I responded and I heard Don's voice on it.
"Hey April!"
"Hey Don! What's up?"
"Nothing much. I was wondering if you are available tonight for...patrol. Are you up for it?"
It was then that I realize something the Donatello of the 2012 show has a crush on April and there is a love triangle between she, Don, and Casey Jones. I was blushing almost immediately as I had most of April's characteristics. Yes, I was a guy before, yes, I was three different Aprils, but this one is going to be something to adjust to. Without a second thought, I instatly accepted his offer.
"Sure thing Donny. I love to go on patrol with you."
"Great! Just sent you the address on where to meet. Be there in half an hour. And please, don't let Casey know of this. Three is company you know."
"No prob. I'll be there. See you soon!"
Hanging up, I looked at the address of where he wants to meet and could tell it's close to the pizza place. Obvious he wants to go on a date, though he doesn't say it. I know this is going to be a little uncomfortable for me as who I once was two months ago. But in the end, I will enjoy it to the fullest. Putting my Tessen in my back pocket, I walked to the streets to meet up with Don. Living in the 2012 TNMT world as this version of April, I can only sum it up in one word.
