Sorry for the delay with this piece, I meant to have it out on Friday morning (posted this Sunday afternoon) but alot of stuff happened this week that caused it to be delayed. You can skip this paragraph if you just want to hear me talk about the drawing and not about the delay. First I had some stuff that meant I had to go to bed earlier then normal so I could get up super early which caused me to have less time for art early in the week, I start art a few hours before bed and work until I go to bed. Then I've been trying to get these guys to repair my furnace for over a month and suddenly I get a call Thursday saying they'll be in Friday at 8 a.m. so I had to go to bed early so I could be awake when they arrived but I also had to spend the rest of my Thursday moving shit around in my basement so they'd have room to work and then Friday I got to spend the whole afternoon fixing my water pipes because the new furnace came with a hot water tank full of goo that clogged my pipes, which was FUN. Spent Friday night fucking with pipes but atleast they're fixed now and everything is working good. Anyway I finally got time to work on this on Saturday and basically powered through everything except the initial sketch in 1 long sitting.
For this piece I decided to draw Corn, also known as Quetzalcoatl, from Betsy Lee's animated series "No Evil" on youtube. I've talked about how much I love "No Evil" and how much of a huge influence it's been on me before so I wont touch that stuff today. This piece was based off of a frame from episode 10 of the series, the exact frame is at 8:40 if anyone is interested. I've actually been trying to draw this frame for years, every few months I'd try to draw it and fail, so I figured since I've been on a No Evil kick recently I'd try it again and I gotta say I think I actually did the scene justice for once. This piece definitely could have been better but due to already being behind on this piece I rushed through the shading and highlighting so this piece ended up only getting like half the time I'd normally give a piece like this, normally a piece with this level of shading takes me 4-7 hours but I got this piece done in about 3.5 hours. Still even with being rushed I think I managed to convey the rough idea of what I wanted to do. I always liked the idea of Corn being menacing without intending with a hint of mysticism about him, he is a like 2 meter tall snake man with a 3 or 4 meter long tail who is also venomous after all, so I really tried to lean into that and give him an almost ethereal and alien air to him in this piece with the overly large eyes and pupils as well as making his eyes glow far more then then normally do in the show while also having him stare directly at the viewer. For the background I really wanted to do another night sky painting like in my Slagar the Cruel fan art, I just had such a ball making that night sky and thought it came out really well so I figured why not do it again. Ultimately I think this piece is alot better then it has any right to be, it is a flawed mess in multiple areas but for a piece that way rushed out it doesn't look half bad so I'm happy leaving it where it is.
