It is commonly known as Compartmentalization. Where a person can be perfectly reasonable and logical on some subject, they can be completely uncritical on another. It is the basic mechanism known as "roles" in sociology. That, and the "Artistic" side of ones mind is in opposition with the "Logical" half. One has to do with emotional expression, the other has to do with reality testing.
