He's a Bearwolf!
I have so much lore for Bearwolves.... I love them....
Race: Bear-Wolf (Mid-land Pack)
-
He was named after his fur coloration and for his claws/toes being oddly big for a baby. He grow into them.
Wolf is part of the first generation of bearwolves to attempt to foster healthy relationships between the bearwolf and northern elf community after previous troubled history. Steadfast and loyal, Wolf is warm, friendly, and very huggy. He LOVES hugs.
Bearwolves
Bearwolves were Hunted to near extinction in the past due to fear and fighting., Which has started putting bearwolves more into myths and rumor. Older generations of elves speak about the ferocity and cleverness that bearwolves had and that they used their elfish form to sneak into villages as travelers then decimate towns to reclaim their forests and grow their number as both wolves and elves fought over land. Elves did similar, and attacked bearwolves during the day in retaliation, leading to a decline in bearwolf population.
Bearwolves have also been hunted for tradition and sport, as they're much more clever than "other wild game". To slay a bear wolf meant you were an exceptional hunter and protector in the eyes of many communities. It is now considered a criminal act to attack a bearwolf in the northern kingdom.
Bear wolf Shifting:
Bearwolves all appear as elves with tails and tipped ears when they're born. These features are always present. Due to previous issues, many bear wolves who venture out into other communities will keep their bear-wolf nature a secret, disguising their tail in clothing or as an accessory.
Once a month During the moon phase they were born under, Bear wolves always shift into their bear-wolf form. (This can be their bipedal form quadrupedal form or a variation.)
The week leading up to their shift, young Bear wolves will have an imbalance between forms. This can very from just yellow reflective eyes, fluffy ears, paw pads, claws, fuzzy feet and appendages or a variety of combinations. Imagine a bunch of elves with the features of puppies, who are all very excited and running around and floppy.
As bearwolves reach their teens they gain more control over their shifting as they practice during the week of their shifts. By their late teens most bearwolves have almost full mastery of their shifting skills and can control when and how they shift at anytime. Imagine a bunch of wolfy teens thrusting each other into lakes, wrestling, having fun or working around their community and helping both older and younger bearwolves
In adulthood bearwolves can shift more subtly to get tasks done. Imagine an adult using big fuzzy arms to help lift something heavy, claws to carve an intricate pendant, eyes to see in the dark, etc.
Regardless of age or skill level, a bear-wolf will always fully shift under the moon in which they were born.
During this time, most are incredibly cuddly and friendly in addition to very strong. They can be in a bipedal or quadrapedal form, or even shift between the two.
