In this timeline, the region of California is settled by the Spanish shortly after the conquest of Mesoamerica in the 1520s establishing the Captaincy of San Joaquin on the Colorado River. San Joaquin was mainly used to expel Jews and Muslims within Spain and its dominion under the rule of a Catholic Minority. San Joaquin would expand across Alta California as the colony became a key source of food and precious metals.
This came to a head in the 1820s when, during the Latin American Revolutions, The marginalized and neglected Sephardis and Muslims of San Joaquin revolted against Spanish authorities and proclaimed the Republic of Abramia, named after the patriarch of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faiths to commemorate the three main ethnic groups (Sephardim, Mudejars, and Joaquiños) of the republic and Ladino, which had become vernacular among the Abramians, replaced Spanish as the language of administration.
As Abramia embraced the Industrial Revolution, Immigration from Ashkenazi Jews steadily increased as Abramia fashioned themselves as a haven among the global Jewry. the 19th century also saw a notable influx of immigrants from East Asia and Romani from Iberia, Italy, and France. seeking a better life away from cultural persecution in Europe. Abramia remained neutral in both of the World Wars whilst providing aid to the allied powers in World War 2 and providing asylum to Jews fleeing German Occupation and the Holocaust. Cementing the nation as the centre of the Jewish World.
The 20th century saw increased advocacy for government representation and accessibility for Muslim and Christian Abramians who had felt underrepresented in a country supposed to champion religious equality, and Native land rights, leading to the creation of The Autonomous Indigenous Nations of Isaquyut (lit. Coyote Island): A federal entity inside of Abramia which allowed Indigenous Populations increased autonomy and control over their homelands. Today, Abramia stands as a vibrant, prospering nation that maintains cordial relations with the US and Canada as well as with the rest of Latin America, With its economy bolstered by the agriculture, handicrafts, mining, and tourism industries.
