This is the view from the top of a peak known as Eagle Plume, named after an amskapipikuni or Blackfeet chief.
Eagle Plume can only be summited by an offtrail trek of 18 miles in total and includes 2 other peaks. This peak is not recommended to climb unless you are highly experienced and trained. Even still, don't attempt this alone. I cannot stress enough how difficult hikes like this are. The views are to die for, but if you're not smart, you just might.
Even after having said all that, this hike was incredible! I saw Glacier National Park in a way that I had never seen before. Glaciers visible to the west and the entire expanse of the Great Plains to the east, and every view in between was laid out before us. We had the whole sky to look up at and more types of wildflowers than I could count along the way. We even saw some bighorn sheep and wild horses!
This is truly a special place, one that holds a tremendous power that can only be understood when you see it in person. There is a reason the Blackfeet called these mountains the Backbone of the World.
