Above and below is the failed Steam guide idea I had to introduce Poofmancers. I highly recommend the PDF version, FA's presentation sucks for a bulleted list.
Not sure how much of this I'm keeping canon, but I'd like to share what I wrote for your enjoyment!
The Poofmancer is a secret magic-based support class unlocked through a scarce few means, none of them particularly pleasant for the player. Very diaper and ABDL centric, the Poofmancer focuses on buffing their allies and debuffing their enemies with diaper and kidcore themed magic. While the class is often referred to as “broken as fuck plz nerf,” its aesthetic and effects on the player keep it from being the Jedi of Star Wars Galaxies, if you catch my drift. This helpful guide will teach you what you need to know about Poofmancers, how to play with them as teammates, and what to do about avoiding them in PvP.
All Poofmancer spells have Diaper Dependency (DD) as their core attack stat, with their defensive core stat being Cuteness. Given their capacity to easily max out DD (which we will discuss later), Poofmancers have some of the most consistent status effects of any class (Rogue is CRYING right now, their one niche taken away) and also pack enough DPS to be mistaken for a combat healer. Higher level Poofmancers also come with high defense from an unknown perk, turning them from the typical Mage archetype they start with into a more Paladin-type class. The only thing Poofmancers can’t do is primary DPS, but with their capacity to hinder their foes and help their allies this cannot really be called a downside.
The Poofmancer is exclusively unlocked by being an unlucky victim of a specific roll on the Class Change Trap, being overexposed to certain Poofmancer spells (ally or enemy!), or by power-leveling your Diaper Dependency (DD) stat as a magic class. Given how difficult it is to naturally do the last option, what with automatic systems doing their best to keep DD low, it’s unlucky you’ll achieve this without a Poofmancer to help.
All players have a hidden stat some of the community is dubbing “Poofmancer Tolerance.” As you are affected by most Poofmancer spells, this Tolerance rises; once it hits the cap, you are forced into the Poofmancer class, which usually spells a wipe since reclassing into a new class always sets you at level 1. It’s speculated that this is to disincentivize pocketing a player, yet it can only trigger once per day per Poofmancer. Perhaps to avoid the inevitable toxic gameplay loop of wiping the party from a sudden lack of a tank? Higher level Poofmancer spells inflict more of this Tolerance than lower level spells. Generally, just keep an eye on how many spells you’ve been hit with recently. Enemy players being forced into the Poofmancer class is speculated to be a bug, but the developers have neglected to comment on it in the weekly updates.
Remember, if you are swapped to a fresh Poofmancer class, you are STUCK until level 10 due to the tutorial mechanics of Devious. It sucks, but you’re going to have to power level Poofmancer until you hit level 10, which comes with some other problems I’ll bring up later.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of Poofmancer as a secret class, no one can see the class on their menus unless they already own the class. The entire skill tree is hidden to Poofmancers until the spell or perk is unlocked, as is tradition for secret classes. High level Poofmancers are quite tight-lipped about the high level spells and perks, likely to avoid attention to the broken class in high level content. Nobody wants their overpowered class nerfed after all. Here are some early spells we do know of:
-Powder Blast: generic single-target at-will damage spell, explosive type. Clears the Bleed status on allies near opponents hit, but does not deal splash damage to other enemies. Raises Diaper Dependency of your opponent if it’s a finishing blow.
–Legend-Forgers Foegath’s incessant bleed inflictions makes me think this spell was made specifically for him.
-Pacify: inflicts Mute on a single foe with a higher success rate than most status spells, with reduced success on bosses. Unlike a typical Mute, the debuff can be cleared early if the foe isn’t attacked to disrupt their cleansing of the magic pacifier.
–Incredible against magic casting bosses; going against the notorious Gandrayda without her ever being able to attack is ridiculous! Why is this a level 3 spell?? Why???
-Padded Protection: temporarily replaces target enemy or ally’s pants equipment with a limited time enchanted diaper, effects scaling with level and gaining new effects at certain levels. As the spell gains more bonuses, the Poofmancer Tolerance and Diaper Dependency penalties increase.
–For allies: at level 5, this grants one of the best early game pants items with high Defense and Magic Resistance, while also granting a slight resistance to statuses. At level 15, the diaper grants immunity to Fear effects, at the cost of inflicting Soaked instead. At level 25, Diaper Dependency is temporarily maxed in exchange for a stat boost to all stats, which is so busted I’m amazed it exists. At level 40, the diaper also grants the Cozy status effect, making this an incredible EXP farming spell for yourself and friends.
–For enemies: at level 5 this disrupts the current enemy action, except for party wipes, and inflicts a weak Slow. At level 15, this will often inflict the Fear status unless the boss is immune, and will attempt to reapply every few seconds. Failures instead inflict a light amount of psychic damage. At level 25 this temporarily maxes Diaper Dependency and reduces enemy stats, while also having a high chance to inflict Soaked. At level 40, the Slow effect is tripled and the Soaked status becomes stackable for as long as the diaper debuff lasts.
-Cleansing Change: level 10 spell. While this spell can only target allies and enemies with a diaper equipped, it will also cure all debuffs on allies except for the negative version of the Padded Protection spell. Likewise, it will always cleanse all buffs on enemies except for the positive effects of the Padded Protection spell. Straightforward, simple conditions, another reason Gandrayda is such a joke with a Poofmancer around.
Here are the perks we have heard about:
-Magician: magical class intrinsic. This class can equip any Mage-type armor and can cast spells faster, with a +20% Magic Points modifier. Nothing new for those familiar with Mages and other magic classes.
-Poofmaster: class intrinsic. This class can only equip diapers in the pants slot, but in exchange the pants slot gains a 20% bonus stat multiplier, the highest of all classes at level 1. This perk also comes with a -30 penalty to Stealth (effectively killing Stealth as an option), a bonus +100 to Diaper Dependency, and a bonus +10 to Cuteness. This is the typical early game stat buffs to get your character started without leveled armor.
–This isn’t the only class to have their class intrinsic signaled by a cosmetic ornament effect, but a pacifier dangling from your hat? Pretty embarrassing. Perhaps it’s meant to be a reward for those who get Poofmancer, for when they change to another Mage class later?
-The Cycle: level 5 class intrinsic. Gaining the Soaked status grants +5 Cuteness for a limited time. When Soaked is cured after this bonus ends by a cleansing effect, The Cycle grants a 10% bonus to spell effectiveness for a limited time. Up to 2 stacks of both effects may be active at a time, and both may be active at once.
–For how early you get this intrinsic, it’s very useless/inconsistent until you get to a high level when Soaked becomes accessible for self-cycling the Cycle perk. Relying on the passage of time or enemies using water spells is incredibly annoying.
-Diaper Trained: level 10 universal. On gain, Diaper Trained sets the player’s Diaper Dependency to max, and the player now loses DD 50% slower. Additionally, there is a low random chance that the player may self-inflict Soaked on themselves on a successful spellcast, independent of Diaper Dependency’s time-based Soaked mechanics.
–This is the perk everyone knows Poofmancer for. Not sure what the devs were thinking; WERE they thinking? Every class has a universal perk they get at level 10 to incentivize trying out all the classes, and this holds true for the secret classes too… resulting in this case where players are forced to only equip diapers for an extensive period of time, and trying to power level down the DD stat also becomes HARDER, effectively forcing you into playing the class for longer. Unless, you want to be stuck in diapers across all classes and be embarrassed to heck for it? The on-obtain auto-equipping themed ornaments for all classes doesn’t help with the embarrassment factor either. Diaper Dependency forces diapers-only on the pants slot until you’re below 50; Diaper Trained sets your DD to 1000! And you HAVE to unlock this perk to unlock reclassing at level 10 again, which you were forced into due to how obtaining this class works. It almost feels intentional with how much of an oversight this is!
–And, thanks to the DD stat being maxed so early, Poofmancers absolutely snowball the early game with late-game level power. At least the class babysits itself when you’re leveling it up! It’s this core reason, combined with its odd acquirement parameters, that leads me to believe Poofmancers weren’t meant to be shipped on release.
Not sure how much of this I'm keeping canon, but I'd like to share what I wrote for your enjoyment!
