Good ol' fashioned art memes, always there when I'm in a rut...
I'm not sure how all of my blorbos ended up being tired, middle-aged men. It just sorta happened.
Characters:
Current Favorite: Grubba - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Easiest pick in the world. He's been a constant brain worm for the past couple of months thanks to that remake, although I've liked him since the Gamecube era. I love how that smile hides the paranoia of an ex-star, desperate to forever stay relevant no matter how many bodies he steps over.
Comfort Character: Klungo - Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Picked the character that I've loved the most since childhood, playing the N64 and having my brain chemistry permanently altered by Banjo-Kazooie. Inexplicably love this lug a lot and I still remember being stoked as hell that he actually got a redemption arc in the sequel. (honorable mentions: Mad Jack from DK64, Rayman)
By Design: Dr. Maddiman - Yo-kai Watch franchise. This was the hardest one to pick because there are a ton of cool designs, but I had to give a shout-out to Dr. Maddiman because he really does have the coolest "monster doctor" design I've seen in a monster catching game. (honorable mentions: Dr. Krankcase from Skylanders, King Candybug from Wreck-it Ralph)
By Plot: Sir Daniel Fortesque - MediEvil franchise. That MediEvil game is a master class in saying what needs to be said in just one 20 hour game, and that skeleton has a ton of character and pathos masterfully wrung out of him. This is only enhanced in the PSP remake where we get to read his diary and find out just what makes that pile of bones tick. Beautifully written character, here's hoping Sony actually figures out what to do with him in the future. (honorable mentions: Joe from Help! I'm A Fish)
Guilty Favorite: Wack Lizardi - Felix the Cat: The Movie. I figured the guilty favorite should be from something that I know is really bad but I can't stop loving nonetheless. I've subjected so many friends to that movie and I insist that it's a work of art while also saying the disclaimer "oh yeah and it's kind of a mess but god look at that monster circus". (honorable mentions: Lord Maliss from Filmation's Happily Ever After, Baron Alberto from the 10th Pokemon Movie)
All Time Favorite: Chancellor Cole - The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. If I had infinite time and energy, there'd easily be way more of this guy in my gallery. Love this guy. Can't even explain why beyond "I just think he's neat."
