Generally... (and this is for any private establishment, not just Wal-Mart).
They (the company, management, etc) do not want to be held liable for anything you might do on their premises. Generally the store will have a policy stating that you must be invited in for such a thing, or more often than not just an outright ban. If anything were to happen, they would be the ones getting sued, not you.
Though, most of the staff at many stored just doesn't care. Its hard to when you're making $7 or 8 an hour.
As a general rule of thumb: If you're going to be entering any private establishment it is a good idea to have permission beforehand. Depending on where you are, your town may even have a no-mask law (Chicago used to, for example). Do your homework before you suit and you'll have a much better experience.
