A prototype that has been successfully tested, but is yet to be submitted for greater galactic production, the X-MK Variable Fire Mode Rifle, commonly referred to by its sole owner as the "Gandiva," when feeling poetic, is the product of multiple centuries of battlefield exposure. Designed and built upon finding few weapons offered the flexibility required for certain situations, the decision was made to take multiple weapons, and use them as inspiration for a new standard in warfare. Initially designed purely to be a marksman rifle, the concept changed to a full sniper, before finally settling on the most flexible variety, a rifle usable in both long range engagements, sniping, or room clearing operations and boarding actions. To further assist with this, the rifle features a substantial smart targeting array to assist with unpredictable elements on the battlefield and to ensure the projectiles only hit their mark.
The key feature that makes the Gandiva unique is its ability to switch from ammunition produced by an onboard fabricator on the fly, to beam or pulse style laser discharges, powered by the cylindrical power cell. With a multitude of firing modes activated almost purely by eye gestures in the scope or spoken aloud, the Sureshot can swap from energy blasts to projectile based ammunition in an instant, as well as a variety of projectile types to bring down particularly hardy targets, penetrate body armor of all types, and even pierce heavy vehicle armor if the right round is used in the right place.
The standard projectile for the rifle is a sabot shell that impacts at extremely high velocities due to the railgun nature of the weapon, but in serious situations, a grenade can be produced, with an explosive compound varying from standard infantry explosives to antimatter. Another, far less often used round is an enchanted version, but this is reserved for when the standard operation of battle is disrupted by far more supernatural entities.
