So decided to draw my Prelo species again, and decided to update some lore for em.

Biology

---

The Prelo are a species of snakelike (though functionally more amphibian in nature) humanoids which possess 4 arms and a mild venom which is capable of killing a Human though not particularly quickly. Standing at 7 feet tall the species is a purple-ish brown color and have patches of bioluminescence on their faces’ which are used to locate other Prelo or communicate with them during the dark half of their planet's day.The species also has a pair of antenna which flow out of the back of their heads, which allows them to sense changes in the air currents to alert them of things present behind them. Their tails are prehensile, allowing them to grasp tree limbs to act as an anchor when climbing around through forests.

Their antennae are used by the Prelo as part of their emotive language, standing at different points based on their emotional state. For calm states the antennae are typically relaxed and laying against the back of their heads while more stressful emotions have the antennae raised in an alert state to help detect potential threats.

Prelo reproduction does rely on internal fertilisation but the developmental process of their offspring is more akin to that of Earth Caecilians. Their young develop inside of soft eggs for three weeks inside the oviducts post-fertilisation while simultaneously the inner lining of cells begin producing a highly nutritious layer of cells which is used to feed offspring after they hatch inside of their mother, usually lasting some two weeks, enough time for the offspring to develop their limbs. Following having developed sufficiently, birth occurs and from then on offspring are typically carried around in their mothers’ secondary arms and fed with her milk to further development.

Due to their planet's long day-night cycle and variable illumination conditions, the Prelo do not have very long sleep schedules, which results in them taking infrequent naps to remain functional. Prelo are able to nap with their eyes open and commonly end up doing so and it is common to find one frozen at a desk or standing completely still with their eyes wide open staring blankly into space. Due to their antennae they are able to detect if something is coming too close to them and quickly snap back to an awake state. From this many in the Collective consider the Prelo to be lazy.

History

In 2067, the Prelo would be discovered by the Pelvfastero Collective and despite resisting an invasion by it, would become members of the Collective shortly after.

Following the end of the war with the collapse of the Pelvfastero Collective, the Prelo would quickly be absorbed by several different factions, with the homeworld of the Prelo falling under the control of one wanting to return to what had been the status quo under the Pelvfastero Collective. In 2310 this group would begin conducting terrorist attacks and pirate raids against the TSR as a form of revenge, however this would backfire on them as the TSR mobilized its military once again and quickly put the group down and absorbed all of its territories. A separate group which contained a large number of Prelo would also find itself in conflict with the reformed Rezlovak Monarchy now called the Kalaveik’Dmare Kingdom in 2324 after it was discovered the group had been using Rezlovak as a slave force. The conflict would later explode into a full war some weeks later and despite having greater numbers, the former Collective group would begin devolving into pirate raids and short destructive skirmishes with the Kalaveik’Dmare Kingdom. The war would continue until several IOA warships entered their systems investigating who had nuked a number of Garthelca planets.

The Prelo home system features two stars with four planets orbiting the primary, a K0 class star. For a portion of the planet’s year, its nights are lightly illuminated by the second star, a large M0 class dwarf, resulting in somewhat twilight-like conditions. Their homeworld is orbited by a singular large moon and the planet itself has a surface gravity of 0.977g, spinning once every 3.54 earth days. Due to the short orbital period of 2.65 earth months, the long days, and the presence of the system’s second star, Prelo do not sleep for particularly long periods of time, instead requiring infrequent naps to stay at top performance. Collective activity in their home system outside of their homeworld generally centers on the moons of the system’s only gas giant and the second rocky planet from its central star thanks to the innermost planet being large, possessing an extremely thick atmosphere and being tidally locked. Despite this said planet is covered in water on the day side and an extremely cold, perpetually frozen night side. The second planet is dry and features a thin atmosphere while being half the mass of earth

While under the control of the Pelvfastero Collective, the Prelo would operate in roles designated for them by a series of Citizens Aptitude and Skills tests given to them over the course of their education. Like some Polela, many Prelo sit in government secretarial jobs for the middle and upper echelons of the Collectives hierarchy as well as servant jobs for the upper echelons. For those in the military they often sit as intermediate scouts, snipers, and as communications operators. A considerable number of individuals are part of the Collective’s Inquisition thanks to their emotive language abilities allowing them to infiltrate groups easier than other species.
