Remember the brave Rat facing Tar the raven? If not, I have posted a lot of their stories ;)
Before their strange meeting, long in the past, the rat wore extravagant dress and fancied themselves of being the captain of the ship. Of course they shouted orders in time of need - and the crew found it endearing (yet they followed the orders of the real captain).
