Unlike the past couple of literation of April I was in a variety of worlds, I felt like this one was the longest I was in. For two to three months, I was enjoying my life as a teenage April, going on adventures, facing dangers, even got involved in a bit of between me, Donny, and Cassie Jones. Doesn't matter if I was in the city, in space, or even in Dimension X, I enjoyed every bit of it. No doubt, the best experience in my life.
Walking down the streets after school, I was planning to meet up with the Turtles for training. But as I walked down the street, a small nagging feeling came to me. It was growing on me since I became the teenage April in the 2012 world. Apparently, there was more then one teenage April within the franchise. The one in particular is from the 2018 show, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I've heard of that show before. It was something that was coming off the tail end of the whole Michael Bay movie series, right down to the Turtles. Now I've seen the films, and...let's just say it was a little mixed. What with the first one is taking out elements from the Amazing Spider-Man film, which was the worst of reboots before Disney/Marvel saved the franchise. And the second one had a better acknowledgement of the Turtles franchise, but seems a bit rushed and never got a trilogy out of it. Granted, I never watched the show and it only lasted for two seasons. But out of the show, there is one thing that some people said that it was controversial, and it was that version of April.
Now that April was a teenager like the 2012 version, however the one thing that kind of got people worked up is that the folks behind the show restyled her as a black girl. Not that I'm against it or anything, it's just it turned off some folks as this wasn't the April they grew up with. This was before the whole Velma reboot and the toxicity that lead to it. Still, looking back, I can understand why people were upset over that slight character alteration. But me? I tend to keep to myself. Still, the idea of a black April does spark a bit of interest. And while I didn't watch the show, I guess I can see myself as that April, even with no knowledge of her. So why not step into unknown territory with this ability of mine.
Making sure no one was looking, I snuck myself into and alley and walked into a narrow area. By the time I got into a clearing, dig into my back pocket and took out my Tessen and opened the fan to see it. Looking on, I knew I am risking leaving this world to enter one I have no preparation for. Still, wouldn't hurt stepping into unknown territory, right? So I closed my eyes and envisioned myself as the April int he 2018 show. I can feel the magic wash over me, as whatever gave me these abilities is granting my wish.
After thinking of that, I felt my hand getting a little hot. Opening my eyes, I could see that my Tessen was starting to change. As it closed automatically, I watched it melt and merging, growing long and have a cylinder shape as my hand was now gripping a handle. Looking on, I could see it look like some kind of baseball bat. But then suddenly, and without warning, it busted into flames, green flames. I was caught off guard by it at first, but then, I realized that it isn't burning me. In fact, it was really harmless like it was some kind of magic. I smirked at the flaming baseball bat and wanted to give it a whack. I started to swing my bat around and was spinning and moving my body around in each swing.
During my swings, the world around me melted and swirled in a colorful tornado, with each swing moving along with the colors. At the same time, my body made the transition once more as I was still a teen, but will be a different teen.
I can feel my skin tingling as my peachy skin was gaining a bit of a brown pigment and was spreading across my arms, legs, and body. I can feel my hair tingling as well as the orange locks at the end of my ponytail was darkening into a darker brown color and spreading forwards. My hair then started to get all poofy and curly as the ponytail snapped and and rearranged into two afro pigtails as the yellow headband snapping in two and wrapping around the ends to keep them back while the front end has some curls on it. It was a weird hairstyle, yes, but I might learn to love it. As my body did a little shifting to match that of April's body in the 2018 show, so did my attire. My yellow shirt becoming green at the middle opened up and with pockets and patches popping up. When a button appeared and closed the lower end, it became a green jacket. Both my undershirt and shorts soon turn yellow and merged into one article of clothing. It almost looked like a tube dress in some way. I still have my leggings, but they shortened and exposed some of my now brown shins. Yet my huge disproportionate boots were shrinking and becoming yellow as well, becoming a pair of trainer sneakers. As the changes were reaching its conclusion, I couldn't help but to feel my eyesight was starting to get blurry. I closed my eyes, trying to rub my eyes with one hand while still holding on to the green magical bat the next. Almost instantly, a pair of stylish red glasses appeared on my face and nestled on my nose. Removing my hand before the glasses appeared, I opened my eyes and I can finally see better with the reading glasses. A small sacrifice yes, but it will be worth it. In a few short moments, I went from being the April O'Neil from 2012 to the April O'Neil of 2018.
As soon as my body and attire changed, the world solidify and I wound up in a different alley way, but only it is more colorful and vibrant. Seeing that it was over, I spotted a broken mirror closed by and have a good look at myself. That's when the realization hits her as she was now the April from Rise of the TMNT show, holding a magical flaming bat. Placing my bat like that of a cane, I get a good look at myself and couldn't help but to smirk at the look. I was a completely different April, but has the same type of energy and skills of the previous one. And with a teenage body, definitely have its perks.
Looking to my bat, I had to find a way to extinguish it, as people might find it weird. Almost instantly, I saw it extinguish itself and it is a normal metal bat. I blinked and thought... Did I shut it off with my mind? There's a lot of questions circling in my head. Still, I'm not familiar with this show as this is all new to me.
Putting the bat into the holster behind my back, I decided to leave the alley way to enter the streets. That's when I saw how colorful and animated this version of New York is. So vibrant and cool in a way. Maybe it won't be so bad living in a world I never seen on the show. With sheer confidence, I walked back down the streets and hoping to meet the turtles to practice, the turtles of the 2018 world. I have no idea what's in store for me, but one thing is for sure. I will enjoy living in this world and I won't have any regrets.
