Hasta and Scutum are ancient historical weapons from the Roman Empire. Legions in groups would at least carry spears and shields to fend off cazadores and ghouls. Hastae handle was made with basic wood, and the spearhead was forged in steel, good enough for thrusting and stabbing unarmored enemies at best. The scutum (square shield) was made with rusty steel plating sprayed with red paint. The shields still can block most attacks and some gunfire, thus saving the many lives of the recruits.
