Wish I had something to live for tomorrow
—“Do you think I should keep talking to Emily and Steven?” he asked as they neared the familiar abandoned house.
— “Where’s that coming from?”
— “I don’t want to put them in danger, not if demons start hunting us. And… well… this transfer to another school. You know, they have their own lives and totally different futures.”
— “Aaaah, I see,” Alyx said, her tone tinged with a bit of lecture. “So you want to end up alone?”
She raised one brow, casting a sarcastic look his way.
— “Or are you planning to find new friends you won’t care about losing?”
— “Unlikely,” Leo muttered.
— “Because you don’t trust anyone?” Alyx guessed.
— “Because I can’t and don’t want to trust anyone.”
— “Well, it seems to me that you trust me just fine. And you do trust your friends too, at least to some degree.”
— “You, yes… you’re part of me now. What’s the point of hiding anything from you? Besides, for some reason, I feel like you can’t betray me…”
He lowered his head, blushing.
— “But I wouldn’t say I trust Emily or Steve one hundred percent. Some things — yes. Others — no. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully trust anyone again.”
