Story:
In the vast savannah, Life and Death were destined to rule over separate realms. Life was a lion, proud and golden, the rightful king of the pridelands. His mane shimmered like the sun itself, and he ruled with wisdom, his roar a command that echoed across the plains. His pride flourished under his reign; he was both a fierce protector and a fair prince. He ensured that his kingdom thrived, fending off scavengers and intruders—especially the hyenas, the ancient enemies of lions.
Death, by contrast, was a hyena—large, dark, and fearsome. She was the alpha of the Hyena Clan, rulers of the elephant graveyard, a land of shadows and bones. Yet, she ruled with a code of her own. Despite her appearance, she was as just as Life. She was feared for her role, for she took the lives of the weak and old, ensuring the circle remained unbroken. But Death had a rule—a sacred law—that no cub or young animal should ever be harmed. The hyenas would not attack the innocent or the healthy; only those whose time had come. The other hyenas revered her for her fairness, even as they feasted on what the circle of life left behind.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and painted the sky in hues of fire, Life found himself wandering near the borders of his territory. He saw her there, standing tall among the gravestones of elephants long gone, her eyes gleaming like embers. She noticed him too, and for a moment, there was only silence between them—a lion and a hyena, predator and scavenger, king and queen of opposing worlds.
But instead of growling, they spoke.
At first, their conversation was guarded, full of suspicion. Life had long believed that hyenas were cowardly creatures, disrespecting the circle by taking without contributing. But Death revealed her truth: she respected the natural order just as much as he did, perhaps even more. She had a duty, too, to ensure that the old made way for the new, that suffering ended where it must. Her clan fed only on those whose time had come, not the innocent, not the young.
Surprised, Life found himself intrigued by her code. He saw in her eyes a fierce sense of justice, and in her words, a truth he couldn’t deny. Death was not the mindless taker he had imagined; she was a balance, a necessary counterpart to his own existence.
In that moment, something sparked between them.
As the nights passed, they met again and again, away from prying eyes and curious ears. Their conversations deepened, and soon they were not just allies in understanding the circle, but something more. They spoke of dreams and hopes, of the weight of responsibility they both carried. They laughed—something Life had never imagined doing with a hyena. Death, despite her grim duty, had a warmth to her that surprised him, and Life’s regal nature softened in her presence.
But their love was forbidden. No lion could be seen with a hyena, and no hyena could ever claim affection for a lion. The pridelands and the graveyard were sworn enemies by tradition. If their affair were discovered, it would mean war. Life’s pride would never understand; Death’s clan would never allow it.
Still, their bond grew. Beneath the light of the moon, they met in secret, lovers caught between worlds. Life marveled at the balance they created together—where he gave, she took, and where she ended, he began. It was perfect harmony. Yet, there was always the looming threat of exposure.
One day, as they met on the edge of the savannah, Life brought up the one thing that neither had dared to speak of yet. “What if the others find out?”
Death’s laugh was low and melodic, but there was a sadness to it. “They will. Nothing stays hidden forever. And when they do...”
“I will fight for you,” Life said, stepping closer to her. His golden eyes gleamed with determination.
“And I for you,” Death replied, though they both knew the truth: a war between their clans would tear the savannah apart. They could be the end of everything they loved.
Their love was a delicate balance, like the life and death they represented. It was fragile, beautiful, and terrifying all at once. But even as they knew the risks, neither could walk away. They were drawn to each other, not just by their shared values, but by the understanding that, in the end, Life and Death were always two sides of the same coin.
I am in live with their story. If they were going to be kept I would made them a comic.
