Max, from Sam & Max, protecting Nijntje, from... Nijntje. Sam & Max is pretty well known, but I will assume most people outside of the netherlands don't know what Nijntje is. It's probably the most famous dutch children's character created by Dick Bruna in the 1950s. It is completely unavoidable! Statues and merchandise everywhere in the netherlands. My sister loves Nijntje and I always thought Max looked kind of like a psychotic version of her, so I decided to draw the two together. When I asked my sister what Nijntje would say in this situation, her response was "I don't know, Nijntje noises".
