Breezefox
Do you remember, when you were just a child, watching leaves dance and spin around in a playful pirouette?
In those moments, you were seeing Sun-Bright Whirlwind.
And in the waving of the trees, on those spring days, where petals were carried along in the breeze with little dancing spirals. That was Sun-Bright Whirlwind too.
And when the gales came, with a roar down the valleys, stripping the bushes and the land, and all you could do was squint and hide - that, too, was Sun-Bright Whirlwind.
So what about the golden eyes, that sometimes peak between the waving grasses? Or the dancing tails, like a half-dozen cattails by the surging river? Or the trilling yips in the yowls of the storm? Isn't that Sun-Bright Whirlwind instead?
Oh no, my friend. That is a blessing.
You may know me as a dog-obsessed porn artist, but as a vibrantly queer hyena I'm legally obligated to also love board games. And that's what you're getting today!
Spirit Island is a board game where invaders have come to your island - and you, as the spirits that inhabit it, find yourselves having to drive them out. Whether by rallying the native dahan with spectral avatars, striking fear into the invader's hearts with fang-filled treelines, or bringing fire and ruin from your volcanos, you have to stop them from blighting your land - before they drive you into obscurity first...
And god, is it so fun. I've never played a game with such vibrant replayability, cooperation, tactical thinking, and balanced asymmetric synergy. Plus the spirits are AWESOME. Like this one!
This piece is a draw-over/remake/study of this art of the spirit Sun-Bright Whirlwind, by Lucas Durham, one of the many utterly fantastic artists for the game. As for why, this is also a birthday gift for the very sweet
Yuri Mikoto, who loves their little breezecat. So I figured, why not draw them playing in the wind themselves? <3
I had fun with the background on this one. I adore simplicity bringing complexity. The leaves - just three shades, just a few patterns - bringing such vibrant ideas of a sun-drenched land... it was really nice! <3 I should really try more backgrounds soon :3
Enjoy~
Spirit Island was designed by R. Eric Reuss and is published by Greater Than Games. You can find out more about it here!
Not sponsored, I just like it a lot. God, can you imagine? :3

Omg!!! 😮✨🦊🌳🍃 And to think that I'm a crazy fan of this type of games, but honestly it's the first time I've heard of Spirit Island. Very happy to have discovered about it through your latest SFW masterpiece which divinely pays homage to this title. Unfortunately i don't know the game characters, but watching your above depicted creature, the famous spirit Sun-Bright Whirlwind made again my day! Really, it's true that simplicity brings complexity, the best example we can find it right on this background realized with immense care and passion! Don't repeat it twice my friend, you definitely should try more backgrounds soon~ Maybe with other gorgeous beasts like this kitsune as protagonists!! 😉🫶💜
