HAPPY NEW YEAR!Another Lunar year has gone and China celebrates today the coming of the Year of the Serpent. The Wooden Serpent.
Did you check your horoscope for this occasion? What? You don't believe in it? Do it anyway, I don't believe it either, it's just for fun.
To make this piece, what I had in mind was "snake" (obviously), Chinese, wooden colours and "brush-like brush". So I picked a kung fu Serpent-style position, one that I felt like it was pretty. The others felt more like "Imma 'bout to be wrecked", and it didn't match the vibe I wanted. Then, I created this snake person, that looks like a gecko, but they're not a gecko. It's because I tried to make a snake with the face of a common Chinese snake, one of their local species, and the nose was quite different of what I was used to do. The clothing was also something I searched on the internet for something pretty but that didn't look like "Emperor's maid" or something. Simpler but still elegant. I picked browns and yellows to paint, because the snake was green, so I picked browns, even though they would look better for something "earthen".. But what is more "earthen" than trees, vines, flowers? They LITERALLY come from the ground! So I won't "apologize" for it.
I hope the writting on the corner is acceptable for my fellow Chinese furries, it was my first attempt in recreating the calligraphy. It was hecking fun, though.
