Got some henna done yesterday, because. . .why the f*ck not? We're going all out on a 'Red Lantern' theme for our booth design this year at AC, so when I saw some lady offering it at a local carnival, I was like. . . hell yes.
I really like how it came out, and now I want to learn to do this shit myself. There may be many horrible learning attempts to come. We shall see.
Anyway, now I'll be REAL easy to find at AC. My roommate took this photo of me workin' on a RL page on my trusty bead box. It's porny, but carefully blurred for your viewing pleasure :)
Or displeasure. Either way. But there's no way I was posting a photograph in my gallery with an 'adult' rating. Noooooo.

uhh...
i wouldn't know what that is.
I only buy smooth stratemore for my comics and crap.
....maaaaybe some DELETER blue line paper for smaller stuff.
BTW: i may note you sometime in the near future about coloring style/technique, and realism+cartoony stylization. (not that it's....relavent...)

Oh, cool. My first girlfriend used to love painting me up with henna every chance she got. She was never anything like as good as whoever worked on you, but it was fun stuff and every once in a while I think I'd like to try to find some just to dabble around with on my own. The designs on your hands are just gorgeous, though!
I gotta tip that might be interested in; just thought you might find it useful. If you ever have the problem of ruts in the Bristol from lines that were erased, take the bottom edge of a pop can and press and rub them flush to the surface of the Bristol, this can safe extra sheets that would have otherwise been wasted/ruined, although you don't look like a gal that erases too much. :)
if it's black, DON'T let anyone apply it. Henna is supposed to be brown. Often times people on the cheap will mix in hair dye, or something like that, which gives the henna a black stain. That can permanently scar your skin. It's horrifying. Make sure the person you're getting it from uses the real solution, mixed with essential oils
From what I know about henna is that it's a bitch and a half to apply to the upper half of your body. If you're going to try to apply it go with your legs down. That'll give you a surface that can be nice and steady (so to speak) instead of trying to work on your opposite arm. It's like piping icing. You gotta have a lot of hand control. But then you've already got excellent hand control from your arts and pr0nz. I'd volunteer for you to work on if I lived near you. But I don't so I can't.
That stuff looks pretty nice... that's one thing that would be tricky to do to yourself - at least with such nice symmetry on both arms :D (unless you're super ambidextrous and can draw with both hands :o) I assume the staining of the skin lasts for a little while? Longer than just writing on yourself with a pen...
See you at AC!

I have been doing Henna and Mehndi since I was 14, I can show you where to buy it, how to mix it and how to learn the archetypes of the designs . I usually do some on myself or my students before we perform for our Belly Dance shows. So I can help you do anything you need :)
I have not gone to one yet BUT when i DO go I will be performing a Belly Dance AS my Jackalope, but instead of the fursuit I will be using facial prosthetic and such..I am premiering this looking in September, and see how it goes for the Circus Themed show the dance studio Puts on Either way I can show you some GREAT Henna resources and some good places to buy pre made starter kits, as well as places to watch out for. But ya know that is a good idea, as well as being a vender at a Con I could do Henna. I only do traditional though, none of that "henna Tattoo" shit..IMO that is desecration of an Ancient art form.. having a tribal arm band or tweety bird done in Henna..UGH -dances on her soapbox-
you never heard of a mechanical pencil before?

I had a boss at a health spa a decade ago who thought it would be a great idea for me to do henna on clients. So she scheduled an appointment without giving me a chance to practice on anyone first. It was such a disaster T__T I could see you doing it for fun on people at conventions as a way to actually get some practice in. Talk about a dedicated art!
Love henna. I used to get it done a lot back in art school (lol) - my roommate and I would doll eachother up with it every so often. I liked it best on my hands and feet. And I got a surprising amount of people at the coffee shop I worked at asking me if I'd been to a wedding. :3
Ohman. I don't care how well you can draw. Those people who do henna designs make it look WAY easier than it is. LOL I need to start playing with it some more... but it's SO hard to get that stuff not to goop over where you don't want it.
Probably would be easier doing it on someone other than yourself though... I was practicing on my own hands, knees, whatever. lol
