Story:
A vast deer herd roamed the plains, led by a mighty stag who had chosen a gentle, beloved doe as his mate. She was cherished by all for her kindness and innocence. Soon after their marriage, she became pregnant, and fate dealt its cruelest hand. A ravenous wolf pack descended upon the herd, outnumbering the deer. In a desperate act, the stag sacrificed himself to the wolves so his pregnant mate and the rest of the herd could escape.

Broken by grief, the doe watched as the other males swiftly sought to take her mate’s place. Their apparent disregard for his memory kindled a deep anger within her. She saw them all as traitors, unworthy of the life her beloved had given up. Consumed by despair, she vowed to resurrect him herself—even if it required the darkest of methods.

Despite carrying new life within her, she delved into forbidden sorcery and, in her madness, sold her soul to a devil. Through a grim ritual, she succeeded in bringing her mate back—but not as the loving stag she remembered. His body returned as a walking corpse, faceless and empty, devoid of speech or emotion. For the heartbroken doe, it was enough just to have him near.



There was a terrible price for this unholy restoration. Each month, to sustain the undead stag, she had to sacrifice a victim. Abandoning all mercy, she began to kill her own herd members in secret, using the jaw of a bear skull to rip out their throats. Desperate to preserve her twisted family—her reanimated mate and her unborn fawns—she continued these atrocities without remorse.



In time, the new herd leaders noticed fawns and does disappearing and soon discovered her horrifying deeds. They banished her, hoping to end the bloodshed. But exile only fed her fury. She found a companion in a vigilant vulture who helped track potential victims, feasting on the remains when the rituals were complete.

Thus, the once-cherished doe became a figure of terror. Her obsession with keeping her mate’s corpse near had unleashed a nightmare upon the plains, one that might one day claim even her unborn fawns. No one knew what grim fate awaited them—children of a mother who had embraced darkness to reclaim lost love.
