Gonna be trying to update Meek's ref from now on, at least once a year to just add some new stuff to make them a bit more representative of me. I want Meek to remain my sona long-term so I wanna update their design to feel reminiscent of me. (I've drawn them a bit more anthro-adjacent here with references to boot, but that doesn't mean the toony aesthetics akin to the previous ref won't be implemented- I may draw them more cartoony, and other people are also welcome to do so.)
I know I said once a year, but I didn't like the OG ref- it contrasted too much with how I wanted to be drawing the character, so I found an in between I'm happier with. Wahoo.
For this one, I mostly just wanted to lean into being a kinkster more. Like, I want them to stay sfw enough for general use, but being kinky ace is a pretty big part of myself as an artist and I don't want to repress that to appeal to people I'm not interesting in talking to. Also pretty heavily inspired by
Sigmaw's fursona with some elements like the latex bodysuit and the braces (with their permission ofc), since honestly we had a lot of overlapping interests and it seemed fun to implement. I also added glasses because, in the past year, I learned I had astigmatism and needed glasses to help treat my chronic migraines, so I want to try implementing that into my character more.
Everything about them CANONICALLY remains mostly the same, they're an anxious introverted enigma that almost never talks (though they do vocal stim and can make noises- they're nonverbal, not outright mute) and all that other stuff. They are 22 now though to reflect that I'll be turning 22 in March, though I'm unsure if I'll keep them aging with me.
Tabletop-Adjacent Stats:
STR - 10
DEX - 16
CON - 12
INT - 14
WIS - 10
CHA - 8
(Stat budget for these is 70, with an ability score of 10 treated as average.)
Moveset and Abilities:
Pokemon Species: Smeargle (Meek is specifically a Smeargle originating from Johto, where a Smeargle's natural tail paint is commonly orange instead of green.)
Pokemon Ability:
- Technician (When Meek uses a move that has 60 base power or less, the damage is increased by 50%.)
Moves:
- Metronome (When Meek uses this ability, a randomly chosen move is used in its place. This could be anything from a defensive Harden, to a crippling Thunder Wave or even a destructive Hyper Beam. Anything can happen!)
- Reference (A Meek-specific move- Meek copies a move used by someone they can see, replicating the effect. The more base power the move Meek is trying to replicate has, the less skill they will have when using it themself. Moves without a base power, such as Sleep Powder, Confuse Ray, Perish Song, etc. are exceptions, and can always be used as intended. They can continue to use that move until they use Reference to copy another, at which point the old move is replaced with the new one. It is of note that should Meek use Reference and keep one specific ability/move for an extended period of time, or is trained to use it, they can slowly overcome the lack of skill with it, but all training with it will be lost once they use Reference to copy a new ability.)
Other Abilities/Ability Notes:
- Meek, notably, does not have the Sketch move common of Smeargles- instead they have Metronome, which is portrayed as artistic improvisation causing a random effect, and Reference, an ability that lets them copy a move used by another Pokemon on a temporary basis. Metronome in particular is the cause of multiple running gags among the few friends they have, as the random effects can have amusing outcomes at times.
- While most of Meek's dexterity is related to their artistic skills, this dexterity also makes them surprisingly good at hiding and moving quietly, though they don't have any special skills or abilities to help conceal themself from anything other than ones basic sight and hearing.
- With the exception of type disadvantages against the fighting type, Meek does not have any notable weaknesses.
Other Notes:
- Meek works as a freelance artist online, and occasionally takes up odd jobs in their area to fill in for the artistic recessions.
- Meek almost never speaks- they can if necessary, but they heavily prefer to stay nonverbal. They are autistic and have ADHD, which can lead them into being easily overstimulated, distracted or confused. They also suffer from several anxiety-related mental health issues, which combined with their neurodivergence leads them to prefer avoiding people rather than interacting with them. The few instances they actively decide to start talking are usually to correct misconceptions or express strong emotions about their hobbies and passions- an amusing example being Meek going into passionate angry rants about poorly balanced tabletop games, or raging at someone using a particularly cheap tactic when playing a video game with them.
- Yes, everything below Meek's neck is either entirely rubber, or covered in rubber. How did they get stuck like that? How does that work biologically? I don't know, and tbh, I don't really care to make up a reason. Make up whatever answer you want, it's not like Meek would tell you lmao.
