“Navigation can be difficult in the best of times. But a snowstorm whipping up in a fury as they attempted to pass over the mountains can make it even more treacherous. Temperatures plummeted. The deck began to ice over as the windswept flakes hit the warmer deck and refreeze instantly. Black ice formed and everyone needed to watch their step. Sails were tethered and lines tightened as they attempted to minimize their footprint against the wind and press on. Could they make it?”
