Now that I've finished the head, there was still something missing when wearing it, especially the human hands were looking off ...
So I decided to create some bird gloves three days before FurVester to complete the outfit :P
I've never created fursuit gloves, or any gloves for that matter, so you would be well advised to not use this as a tutorial xD
Instead of doing research, I just dove right in and started copying my hand and arm to a piece of paper by trying it.
To achieve the ~1 cm. seam allowance, I created a small paper piece with a width of 1cm and attached it to a pen, so I could quickly draw around it.
Next I simply cut out the paper and traced it on the gray minky I bought, flipped it and did the same thing, so I had enough fur for one glove.
This time I used cloth succors from the beginning instead of using a rolling cutter to prevent me from cutting the actual fur.
At that point, I've already made my first major mistake, and you might be able to spot it in the image.
I perfectly traced around my arm, ignoring the fact, that my wrists are much smaller than my hand, thus I wouldn't be able to put the gloves on, because I couldn't get my hands through the wrist part.
Later I'll talk about how I solved that issue with a little workaround.
After cutting the fur out, and laying it flat on the table, it still looked very boring, so I decided to search around and find pictures of fursuit gloves I liked.
Most of them featured scales made of stuffed cloth cutouts, and so that's what I decided to do as well.
I didn't really have an idea what to do and how they should look, so I simply started sketching some shaped on a piece of paper.
I settled on a total of 5 pieces with different sices and shapes, so they would fit my arm shape and make it look more interesting by not being too uniform.
After a lot of cutting, I was quite pleased with the result, and so I started sewing them on the top part of the glove, leaving a tiny hole open which I used to stuff it with cotton.
Now that I had the scales attached, I started sewing the bottom and top part of the glove together, so I could finally try putting it on.
When I attempted to put them on, I realized pretty quickly, that they were far too tight, and that I couldn't actually get my hand through the wrist part xD
As a quick fix, I cut the bottom part open around the wrist, and simply sew in additional minky cloth until it was wide enough to just get my hand through.
I was very careful not to add too much cloth, so it would still hug my skin and didn't look baggy.
After being able to actually put them on, I still wasn't really satisfied with how it looked, because they still looked boring and lifeless.
So I just grabbed my shaver and started shaving the fur, so it looked more like scaly skin ... Which actually worked surprisingly well, especially because I had free-handed everything without planning it out beforehand :P
These small cuts really made the gloves pop, without costing much time or effort.
As a last step, I wanted to add claws to the gloves, so I created some basic claws in Blender and quickly printed them.
I designed the gloves so they were slightly larger in the back, and provided a round surface where I could attach the fur to.
My idea was to simply cut a small hole in each finger to stick the claws trough, later I would attach the edges of the fur to the claws with hot glue ... Probably not the most elegant solution, but it works.
Originally I wanted to add small cups to the back of each claw, so they would attach to my fingers, but because that would've involved a lot of measuring and modelling, I decided against it.
They still work pretty well and stay in position because the gloves are tight enough.
All in all, I'm happy with the result, although there are a few minor things I'd improve if I'm creating another pair of gloves.
First, I'd create the fingers differently as separate cloth parts, instead of cutting them out with the hand itself.
That way I could make them a bit wider while still having enough fur to sew them all the way to the hand, my first method had the problem, that the fingers were quite tight, because the seam allowance and cut between them narrowed them quite a bit.
Secondly, I'd plan ahead and widen the wrist part in the cutting pattern, so I can actually fit my hand through xD
P.s. I finished them in two days, so I was able to wear 'em at FurVester :D
