This is the protagonist for a novel I am writing that is set in Chicago, Illinois during the Victorian era: Chelsea Perkowski. In the novel, she was originally human, but the stress of being oppressed manifested itself into shifting into a werecat, or, in this case, a were-cheetah. Chelsea was secretly LGBTQ, a minority much oppressed during that era. Even so, she aspired to be an actress, and closeted her homosexuality. In a related note, contemporary Charlie Chaplin (an maker of a cameo in this novel) once said "You'll never find a rainbow if you're looking down." I acknowledge that quote was about optimism, because at some point, Chelsea would hit a breakdown later on and recover from it.
