I know Chuck Jones had to make Daffy The Scarlett Pumpernickel because he drew more of a crowd but the fact Pepe wasn't at least in it was a crime.

:D I don't have *any* backstory to this, but in my collection of Xerox artwork of character designs I have a terrific picture of "Pepe as Cyrano". I haven't looked at the picture in a good long while (it's packed away in boxes) but I'm pretty sure it was drawn by Dan Haskett who has been heavily involved in a number of important pre-production efforts involving the Looney Tunes and I want to believe that at some point this picture meant there was a production being considered of having Pepe in the lead role of an adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac, which has my mind filled with curious and whimsical possibilities.

Or it could be that Dan just thought it was a fun idea and drew it out completely separate from anything else.
