INTRODUCTION:
This was my first time making a balloon costume suit. I've done tails, garlands, rideable items, etc., but never something as big as this! I wanted to do something silly and spontaneous but also incorporate my big hobby of 2024 into the mix. My friend Hurley showed me in the past that he made giant balloon costumes before for company events, and then we had a visiting balloon-twisting furry from Canada that showed me they made costumes as well, and I was like FUCK THAT LOOKS COOL
MATERIALS:
- 6" Standard White Decomex Linking Latex Balloons (100 Per Bag) x2
- 11" Standard White Decomex Linking Latex Balloons (100 Per Bag) x2
- 260 Kalisan Twisting Latex Balloons Standard Black
- 360 Kalisan Twisting Latex Balloons Standard Black
- 260 Nozzle Up Kalisan Twisting Latex Balloons Standard Red
- 260 Standard White Decomex Twisting Modelling Latex Balloons
- 3M Scotch Permanent Adhesive Dots
QUICK Q&A:
Q: Why Boykisser?
A: You know at first, it was either going to be that or an Albino Alligator, but after talking to three friends and telling them I was unsure of whichever route, we were like "It's funnier."
Q: How many balloons were used?
A: This is like a rough calculation since I eyeballed tutorials and I'm pretty sure the sizes aren't accurately recorded, and there were more balloons added later on. 204 on display, probably add 10 balloons that were broken/aged from the bags and an additional 15 from initial sizing and testing. The minimum was 247 balloons.

No tail, because I was in a rush. ;-;
Q: How were you able to see out of that / get into that / survive in that?
A: Good question, everything was a challenge in that suit. It was awful with the static, constant balloon squeaks, and don't get me started about the non-existent visibility (I could've only seen through my sides). The original idea was to use the chest area of the overalls as my quick escape/visibility shoot, but unfortunately, I had a big head.
ngl tho it was extremely fun being in that thing too to the point I was crab-walking into the elevators, doing cheerleader jumps in open spaces, and briefly stopping by at panels in it for hours.
I'd like to give a special shoutout to
Rex_Raccoon who helped me get into the suit and fix parts while I was in it! Like he was able to attach the limbs together, but also turn the head into a flippable helmet. Also shoutout to the random guy that helped me get out of it, because I was kinda trapped in that lol
Q: Would you ever make something like this ever again?
A: It's a maybe, but probably yeah if I can get paid out of that. Like it only took me 2-3 workdays alone and probably $30-40 worth of balloons, not including the equipment. It was extremely killer on my hands even with the electric pump, because it was a rush job.
Q: Do you still have the suit?
A: I donated the suit to the PhenodToy's Pool Toy Party and they turned him into a Christmas Tree. It was awesome and I'm glad he had one last spectacle at the con!
Q: This seems like a waste of balloons...
Balloons can only really last a couple of days to a few weeks, but considering I used them as a costume, it was definitely on the lower end. I only use 100% biodegradable latex balloons.
