The Shengxiao Warriors is the Asian Deadly Alliance team and the Ancient Deadly Alliance team. The Twelve Warriors of the Chinese Zodiac are the defenders of Shengxai, battling the evil Nian and the nefarious Dark Shengxiao Triad every Lunar New Year.
Origin
Six years ago, the Jade Emperor celebrated his birthday and organized a special banquet which was a great race for chosen ones to be selected as part of the Twelve Guardians of the Shengxiao as his decree. All those who participated in the race will come to the palace after midnight; failure to heed the rule of the event by going to the palace before that time will be disqualified. Among them were the twelve animals in the realm: the rat (Jiaohua Baishu), the ox (Gao Qiangniu), the tiger (Guan Menghu), the rabbit (Ji Xingjuan), the dragon (Liu Jinlong), the snake (Zhang Yingshe), the horse (Han Xiongma), the goat (Xu Shanyang), the monkey (Shen Yuhou), the rooster (Wu Huji), the dog (Zhao Yonggou), and the pig (Zhuang Xiaobohai). There was also a cat (Ye Mao) who was a friend of the rat at the time.
By midnight, all but one raced to the palace at exactly midnight but they had to cross over the strong river in order to reach the other side. Fortunately, they did by their wits, skills, and good deeds like teamwork they performed and reached the emperor’s palace in order. After the race, they became the Shengxiao Warriors and granted their special abilities based on their appearance to defend Shengxai from the evil forces of Nian on every Lunar New Year’s Eve.
On their fifth Lunar New Year’s Eve, the cat (now Hei Mao) sought revenge on the rat for being tricked during the race. But the rat fought his rival with his cunning tricks but suddenly Nian’s evil minions attacked his home village and he had to protect the family and his people, leaving his defeated arch nemesis behind to fight another day. But when he reached the village on time, he faced a different enemy: the Dark Shengxiao Triad and stood alone against many until the ox came to aid him. Everywhere in Shengxai provenance, the Shengxiao Warriors managed to repel their cowardly attacks.
After their successful defenses, they learned that the triad targeted the temples in an attempt to steal its energy essence to awaken the darkest yin emperor and unleash Chaos across the empire with the help of Nian. The Shengxiao Warriors have decided to track down the triad and stop them from fulfilling their evil plot, each one in their hometown. During their mission, each guardian had unlocked their powers from within as they defeated the dark guardians, revealing their plot even further. Though they managed to foil their plan, however, the dark emperor was resurrected but not fully powered yet to conquer Shengxai alone. The twelve guardians have managed to locate their hideout, but along the way they encountered a broken cat who needed help from them after his mistake he took and forgave them for his terrible deed he had done. The rat forgave him with compassion and agreed to help him to defeat their common enemy.
There at the dark emperor’s tomb, they infiltrated the ruins and confronted the Dark Shengxiao Triad boss, Yiang Long-Hundun, and then faced Nian himself and then the resurrected tyrant in a final battle. But during the fierce battle, the Shengxiao Warriors were no match for the evil emperor until the cat sacrificed his life to save them, giving them one last hope to defeat him and banish his dark soul into the abyss. It was Liu Jinlong who banished his ancestors’ enemy and sent him back whence he came, ending their evil plan to conquer Yaundong forever. After Nian banished once again and the Dark Shengxiao Triad defeated, the twelve guardians gathered the cat and restored him to his redeemed self with their power so he can start his new life in Con Rong Duong as a noble scholar.
The Shengxiao Warriors have fulfilled their destiny as the new Eternals when they defended the Jade Empire from the forces of chaos, but their duty continued as long as Nian and his evil minions are still out there for the next Lunar New Year’s Eve.
Team Members
From left to right: Yuhou, Xu Shanyang, Han Xiongma, Ji Xingjuan, Guan Menghu, Gao Qiangniu, Liu Jinlong (Leader), Jiaohua Baishu, Zhang Yingshe, Wu Huji, Zhao Yonggou, and Zhuang Xiaobohai.
Jiaohua Baishu
The cunning Ratling with the power of re-animation and a skill of the trickster. Jiaohua Baishu was hailed from the Shu Family who was one of the most intelligent members with motivation. At midnight of the Lunar New Years’ Eve, he asked (and tricked) the kind, naïve ox, Gao Qiangniu, to get across the river and then made it to the other side as the first Shengxiao Warrior. But before that, he also tricked the cat - Ye Mao - to give him a head start before others made it to the Jade Emperor’s palace which unintentionally led him to be disqualified from the race. After becoming the guardian of the Rat Temple, Baishu felt regret about his former friend but his duty became a burden to him and his family and clan to defend his hometown from Nian until on the fifth Lunar New Year’s Eve, he forgave his old friend and former rival for his misdeeds and redeemed him to become a better person. Still, his cunning tricks on his foes and the power of bringing the usable objects to life made him a valuable member of the Shengxiao Warriors.
Gao Qiangniu
The mighty Minotaur-like Ox with a super strength who is one of the strongest warriors of the Niu Family he represents. Gao Qiangniu had trained his muscle for years to become the next guardian of the Ox Temple until he heard the Jade Emperor hosted his banquet and organized the race to the palace at midnight. After crossing over the river, Qiangniu came in second place and despite that, became one of the Shengxiao Warriors. During the second Lunar New Year’s Eve, he expected to face Nian first. Instead, he fought the Sargonian Minotaurs who sought to plunder his family’s ancestral treasures and managed to crush them all and banished the invaders back to the west, thanks to his size and strength. He may be a kind and naïve one, but he has a great golden heart of a noble warrior.
Guan Menghu
The fierce Tigerman with the power of his spiritual balance. Guan Menghu followed the footsteps of his ancestors who trained himself under harsh conditions in order to survive and become the new guardian of the Tiger Temple for the honor of the Hu Clan. After his toughest training, he raced to the palace at midnight and swam hard over the river to get to the Jade Emperor’s palace until he finally reached it and became the third Shengxiao Warrior. Despite being disappointed, he controlled his coolness in front of the emperor which granted him the power of spiritual balance of Yin and Yang. After becoming the new temple guardian, Menghu vigorously trained his new power to maintain balance until on the third Lunar New Year’s Eve, he got rude visitors from Rakshasan Empire and fought them back as he defended the temple. But as he was about to finish off his last opponent, Menghu spared his life and sent him back from whence he came, meaning he kept his rage at bay from executing him and made him a worthy noble and fierce warrior. Menghu is also a partner of Liu Jinlong as they are the deadly duo called “Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon.”
Ji Xingjuan
The Anthro-Rabbit with an incredible super speed. Ji Xingjuan was hailed from the Ji Family and considerably one of the luckiest members of the clan. During the Lunar New Year’s Eve at midnight, Xingjuan made to cross the river by hopping on rocks because the river’s current was too strong until she tripped into the water but luckily grabbed the wood log and tried to reach the other side until Liu Jinlong helped her and arrived at the Jade Emperor’s palace, securing her position as the fourth Shengxiao Warrior. After the becoming the new guardian of the Rabbit Temple, Xingjuan received the power of super speed and trained herself to control it until she was intruded by mercenaries from the Lepgardian Kingdom and kicked these unwanted guest out of her hometown in a nick of time as well as Nian’s forces in the middle of the night. Overconfident and joyful, Xingjuan protects anyone who was unfortunate while keeping her lucky foot intact and she was very lucky to be part of the team.
Liu Jinlong
The noble Dragonfolk with the incredible firepower and the leader of Shengxiao Warriors. Liu Jinlong was the descendant of the Great Jinlong who defeated the darkest yin emperor six centuries ago and became the first guardian of the Dragon Temple. On the Lunar New Year’s Eve at midnight, Jinlong was favored to win the race organized by the Jade Emperor himself for his birthday banquet. However, he was delayed when he helped the villagers by bringing the rain of life to grow their crops and along the way to the palace he helped Ji Xingjuan to get her to the other side of the river. For his good deeds, he secured his position as the fifth Shengxiao Warrior and the new guardian of the Dragon Temple. For five consecutive Lunar New Years’ Eve, he defended his ancestral home from Nian and foreign invaders, from the Azharulan Kingdom to the Ferusian Barbarian Tribe, until the Dark Shengxiao Triad appeared when they attacked the temples throughout the realm in an attempt to steal its essence to awaken his ancestors’ greatest enemy. After foiling their evil plan, Jinlong banished his ancient nemesis and defeated the triad and Nian with his fellow comrades, saving the Jade Empire from the forces of Chaos. And with that heroic act, Jinlong became a leader of the Shengxiao Warriors as his leadership and honorbound of justice made him a great example of the team.
Zhang Yingshe
The femme fatale Serpentfolk with the power of invisibility. Zhang Yingshe was the descendent of the Snake Guardian of the Shé Clan who ironically was a male like her father, leaving her as the only successor as the next guardian. Feeling disappointed, she left her family’s temple and wandered across the forest alone until she heard the news about the Jade Emperor himself hosting the banquet for anyone who participated in the race at midnight on Lunar New Year’s Eve. She returned home immediately before midnight until it struck at twelve o’clock and rushed to the palace, but the only problem was the river as the currents were too strong to cross it. Fortunately, she used her bamboo stick to lift her over the river and made it to the palace, securing her sixth position as one of the Shengxiao Warriors. Although she was shunned by her father, Yingshe had yet to prove him wrong that she is indeed a worthy successor; more than a mere girl. During her time of guardianship at the Snake Temple, she trained herself with her family’s halberd and donned her armor despite her father’s protest. However, she was granted the power of invisibility like her ancestors. After her training was completed, her temple was intruded by the Gresnaken and she had to repel their attack. However, her father intervened and held them off until he fell and Yingshe rushed to save him. After her first battle against the intruders, she was forgiven by her father after proving him wrong and honored to be a proud guardian and a member of her clan. Yingshe is cunning and elegant thanks to her beauty and… snake charm.
Han Xiongma
The high-spirited Anthro-Horse with the power of healing. Han Xiongma came from one of the frontier families of the Ma Clan and loved to explore the world until he received a letter and was selected for the great race to the Jade Emperor’s palace for his birthday banquet. Happily accepted, Xiongma returned home to prepare himself for the race until midnight on the Lunar New Year’s Eve, he ran off in a good start. But when he nearly reached the emperor’s palace, he was startled by Zhang Yingshe when she appeared before him and secured his position as the seventh Shengxiao Warrior. After becoming the new guardian of the Horse Temple, Xiongma granted his power of healing, giving him the ability to cure the sick and combat the diseases as well as defending the temple from Nian and Horse Demons. One day, he received some rude visitors from the Kiakalogosian Kingdom who sought to conquer his homeland as part of their so-called empire but Xiongma defeated them to teach them some manners and kicked them back to the west. Xiongma is youthful by his age and a courageous warrior of the team.
Xu Shanyang
A gentle Goatman with the power of astral projection. Xu Shanyang lived in a secluded mountainside with the mighty Yang Clan. One day, he received a letter from the Jade Emperor himself who invited him for the banquet as well as one of the chosen ones for the great race he organized. But at midnight on the Lunar New Year’s Eve when he reached the river, Shanyang met Yuhou and Wu Huji and worked together to build a small raft for three and made it to the other side, securing his position as the eight Shengxiao Warrior. After becoming the new guardian of the Goat Temple, Shanyang meditates with his new power received from the emperor himself to watch over the village and protect them from Nian and his evil minions. One day, Shanyang sensed the foreign intruders from the Paganitzan Kingdom and dispelled them using his astral projection and drove them into sleep; his power can also be used for spying on the enemy. Even in combat when his spirit returned to his body forcefully, he still had his martial arts skill. After banishing the intruders, he continued to meditate while guarding his homeland. Shanyang is very calm and coolheaded goat.
Yuhou
The cunning Simian fighter with a shapeshifting power. Yuhou was once a stray from the wilderness with no biological family relatives, but he was welcomed by the Hou Clan when he entered the house of the Shen Family. Adopted, Yuhou studied the arts of Kung-Fu and Wude as well as the story of the Monkey King. One day, he heard the news about the Jade Emperor’s banquet for his birthday and wanted to participate in the race on Lunar New Year’s Eve at midnight which he did. But when he reached the palace, he met Xu Shanyang and Wu Huji and worked together as a team. He brought an idea to build a raft for three, using bamboo sticks and a piece of cloth. After they made it to the other side of the river, Yuhou became the ninth Shengxiao Warrior and the new guardian of the Monkey Temple. Feeling responsible for his duty, he kept an eye out for the intruders including Nian. But one day, the temple’s relic was stolen by some thieves from the Yurgillian Kingdom and he had to get it back before Lunar New Year’s Eve as he tracked them down to the jungle until he found them at the camp. Instead of going into a frontal assault, he used his shapeshifting power to blend in as their leader and recover the relic undetected, replaced with his well-handcrafted object, and then quickly returned to his home village with the real one just in time for the New Year’s Eve. After tricking Nian and his minions with fireworks and music, Yuhou was very proud to his family and clan as a worthy guardian and the Shengxiao Warrior for his creative moves as a shapeshifter and a trickster like his favorite Eternal hero, Sun Wukong.
Wu Huji
The Avian-like Rooster with the ability to freeze his enemies and the powers of telekinesis and levitation. Wu Huji came from a noble family with military honors when he served the empire. One day, he received a letter from the Jade Emperor’s palace and was invited for the banquet which he accepted and participated in the race. But when he reached the river, he began to look around to find a way to reach the other side until he turned to Xu Shanyang and Yuhou and led them to work together as a team. After crossing over the river, Wu Huji became the tenth Shengxiao Warrior and the new guardian of the Rooster Temple. He has been guarding the temple day and night while learning the ropes with his special ability and the elemental power of ice he acquired when his feather turned blue. One night, his temple was invaded by cave-dwelling Aviaks who attempted to steal the relic but Huji stopped them in their tracks, freezing them alive and tossing them away into the air with telekinesis. However, more of them were coming and Huji stood his ground until none of them were left alive, just in time for the Lunar New Year. After his duty was fulfilled, Huji has proven himself to be a worthy guardian of the Rooster Temple and one of the Shengxiao Warriors. He may be a bit strict and stubborn, but he’s honorable and dutiful as he’s a pinnacle to keep the team in balance.
Zhao Yonggou
The athletic Anthro-Canine with a rejuvenating power. Zhao Yonggou was a martial arts champion who had won few tournaments across the realm, trained by his Kung-Fu master from the Gou Clan since he was a pup. One day as he was preparing for the next tournament in Joseon, he received an invitation from the Jade Emperor for his banquet on Lunar New Year’s Eve and participation for the race to his palace at midnight. Later that night, Yonggou reached the palace but he had to cross the river by swimming through the strong current which was quite challenging and fun until he finally reached the other side and secured his position as the eleventh Shengxiao Warrior. Though he hadn’t won the race, it was exciting to have him invited to his birthday party and receive the power of rejuvenation giving him the ability of immortality. After the celebration, he returned home victorious and became the new guardian of the Dog Temple. While guarding the temple from Nian and his evil minions, Yonggou honed his fighting skill as he prepared for his first battle as the defender of his homeland. Two weeks before the next Lunar New Year, Yonggou was challenged by the warriors from the Hündenberg Kingdom and turned the temple into his personal arena and defeated them one by one, fair and square. After defeating all eleven warriors and sending them back from whence they came, Yonggou is the most valuable member of the team as long as he doesn’t get over his head of hurting himself in the face of danger.
Zhuang Xiaobohai
The Anthro-Pig with thermal vision and beam power. Zhuang Xiaobohai was a humble farmer from the Jihai Family of the Zhu Clan, helping the village farm by growing some crops for the next winter. On the Lunar New Year’s Eve, Xiaobohai heard the news about the great race hosted by the Jade Emperor for his birthday and likely wanted to go to his palace at midnight. But, he was tired after a long day's work at the farmland until twelve minutes later after midnight (after eating his quick breakfast and nap), he made it to the palace just in time before the race was over. After the race, Xiaobohai became the twelve Shengxiao Warriors and the new guardian of the Pig Temple. Surprised by the sudden moment, Xiaobohai had to protect the temple and the village from Nian and his evil monster army. During his time of guardianship, however, he still worked at the farmland as he taught the young ones on how to grow crops, tending livestocks, and building and fixing houses and silos for the next Lunar New Year. On the twelfth hour of the Lunar New Year, a band of Boarman bandits sought to plunder his hometown but Xiaobohai was there, resting up for a bit until he spotted them and pushed them out from the village. But later at night, the bandits returned and this time, he used his new power of thermal vision and spotted them again with more of them along the way. Facing overwhelming odds, Xiaobohai was brave enough to fight the bandits with his big mace until he used his beam attack from his armor chest on their leader, scaring them away from the village. After defeating the bandits, he is now a worthy guardian and the Shengxiao Warrior. Xiaobohai may be lazy sometimes but he has a heart of gold when it comes with helping people.
