Part 1 (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59808486/): The offer.
Part 2 (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59808509/): Getting into the swing of making a new thing.
Part 3 (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59808526/): Mostly built, with some exposition as padding.
Part 4 (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59808543): Wrapping up building, arriving home again.
Well it really should be 'ContracTAUR' but it just pains me to put that in the actual title.
Harry Pykes has dealt with mages a few times in the past, and now one is coming to him for help. They want help making something for a new 'project.' He's reluctant, and not just because he's not had the best experiences with mages in the past. One experience turned him into a silver fox-taur (Crippled No More), and the other nearly killed him (Taur in Pursuit).
The whole family goes to help out, although his son Greg has a different job than what Harry will be doing. Greg, as it turns out, is a bit unusual. Okay, a lot unusual.
The mage in question who wants his help 'rules' his village with a relaxed approach; he mostly just charges taxes and tries to keep violence away. Aside from that one time, where he did personally try to remedy the situation, Konrad the Noble thinks he's done a good job keeping war bands, bandits, and pirates away. Konrad doesn't expect to just get the help for free and is willing to offer various rewards, some less tangible than others, in exchange for having a real, licensed contractor to help make buildings (though he hasn't renewed his license since the state government collapsed).
This story has four parts, and altogether it's about 38 pages. It features characters from all the previous stories set in this universe: 'Crippled No More' (link), 'Taur in Pursuit' (link), and 'Magic and Replacement' (link). This story does not feature violence and isn't racy, but the other stories are 'mature' due to violence and/or discussions of sexual anatomy.
It shows a side of post-apocalyptic settings where people still cooperate. I think that if faced with significant challenges and with only total strangers to work with people will tend to work together. Sure, some people work together better than others, but humans want to have a group, and we will make one if the need arises. It's when groups of people clash that violence or strife tends to happen. War, raiding parties, and worse happen between (perceived) groups, not loners on their own. Though, to be fair, sometimes people make a 'loner' group with only themselves to be the group.
Medium-long story, with lots of characters. wholesome for the most part.
pdf because I chose to make the telepaths each be a different font for their thought-speak. Formatting is tough sometimes.
