Steele is friggin evil. He is ready to let a town of children and his friend die so he can keep being the hero. As a kid I just though he went crazy as they got stranded in the snow but as an adult I see he is probably a full blown narcissist from the start. He always was. The first scene with him and Jenna is a good example of this. As she reject him he start to insult her. There are many more signs but that is the one where I went “oh!”.

Yeah, sadly there‘s no saving him like this. This doesn’t mean he couldn’t be helped, but he would first have to realize that he needs help in the first place, and nope, not gonna happen. Maybe, and thats a big maybe, his downfall at the end shakes him up enough to realize he’s wrong here… but I highly doubt it.

XD Yeah! I think Scar could have been saved if helped soon enough. Of course, at the time Simba was born, it was basically too late, although not impossible.
With Steele… we know too little about his upbringing, but my guess would be, that he was way too pampered as pup to begin with and ironing that out would be… challenging at best.

I dont know if either of them could be helped. Steele is a full-blown narcissist and he wont even change when children are about to die - that is in his personality so that wont change - because he does not want to change.
Scar just want to be king. Him and Simba are very much alike actually - only Simba is a kid who do not comprehend what it actually means (for him to become king) - Scar is kind of the same but he understands what it means and acts on it.

What I meant was that both could possibly be saved in a point before either movie happened. No one is born a narcissist, so at some point Steele could have been saved from, whatever pampered him this much. With him ist's very possible, that it was pretty early in his childhood and for quite some time as well. Thats why I said it would be challenging at best.
Scar is little bit easier. He is highly intelligent and lacks perspective. He only sees pride rock and fails to see the bigger picture. If given a viable perspective he might be able to change. In the second TLK he had a following. It is possible, that they would have followed him either way, so why not establish a new kingdom for instance. However there needs to be a viable way and, maybe most of all, understanding and help from Mufasa and the rest. There must have been wounds all along for Scar to kill his own brother like that. You don't resent someone enough to kill, without an incident that started it off. If that is adressed carefully, I am pretty sure, that there might have ben a change in Scar for the better of all of them.

Well you cant call a child a narcissist but you can be born a psychopath or sociopath. It is a huge topic but I understand what you mean.
If a person dont want to better themselves there is no way you can help them. Probably he had one or both parents with NPD and leaned from them absolutely. I am not a professional but my theory is that it is how you are wired if you have it. If you feel "better" (sad thing is most people with NPD are misreble and in pain - it does not excuse their behaviors in any way but it is a symptom) and you get more out of manipulating people in a way that actually make them like you and dont act the whole " love-hate-love-hate" thing - then ...I wont say it is not a problem but it is better than one that destroys the life of others.
Yeah Scar kills out of want and jealousy. He kind of have a mindset of a kid. Well lions do that all the time IRL (a male kills another male and take over the pride killing the cubs too so his genes are passed on instead) but these are anthropomorphic.
Me too! I grew up thinking Steele was just pushed over the edge and snapped as they fell down the mountain - that he got into some sort of panic mode. But as an adult- he has NPD. The scene when he hits on Jenna is the most telltale one: he tries to be sweet to her and when he rejects he socially punish her - thankfully she sees him for what he is. "Only way Steele is gonna notice anyone is if they are wearing a mirror" - it is the metaphor the personality disorder got its name from.

Absolutely, Steele has NPD 100%
And in the state he is during the movie he is absolutely unsaveable. After the end I'm not quite sure, since we never see him again. It might be that he gets shaken out of his illusions by losing all his social contacts, although unlikely. It's more likely, that he creates just another illusion projecting the blame on someone else he can hate for himself being lonely since he can't be the reason. In my heart I hope he realizes that he is in the wrong, bc I love him, but...
In the case of Scar I think if played carefully and respectfuly, if given perspective he might have changed. He is not as absolutely twisted as Steele was. He "just" needs another goal other than, be the King of Pride Rock, although that is hard to replace, especially since he seems himself as deserving that, or even entitled to it.
