Oh boy was this piece a mess to put together. So for this piece I really wanted to draw Kasha from the video game "Tooth and Tail", this would end up proving to be much more difficult then I initially anticipated. First I ended up spending like 3 to 4 hours (over the course of 2 days) sketching her in different poses. At first I thought I'd try drawing her in an action pose, but alot of the action poses I wanted had either already been done by other (more skilled artist) drawing her or felt really generic and bland. Then I tried drawing her in some more mundane poses but those all felt boring and out of character. So I tried to find some references other people had drawn of furry characters with sniper rifles to see if I could find some inspiration, but alot of those had already been done with Kasha, were too generic or overtly sexual and while I don't mind drawing lewd most of the time I just didn't want to draw Kasha lewd so I ended up rejecting most of those ideas. Eventually I sat down and really thought about Kasha as a character and came to this idea of drawing her as she is in the final mission, sitting in the woods by a campfire. For those who don't know the story of T&T I'll just give a quick Kasha only summary, during the story we find Kasha working for all 4 factions and what we can piece together through her dialogue over the story is that she really doesn't like the war thats going on and just wants everyone to find peace and work together, she even presents an idea for what peace in this world could look like in her dialogue in the KRS campaign. Unfortunately all the leaders of the factions just don't ever want to get along and in the end we find Kasha has abandoned all the factions (the other hero units have also done this but for differing reason) and has fled into the woods. In the final mission she's only recruitable if you find her on the map and hire her initially as a mercenary (afterwards she becomes a normal unit to recruit). I really liked this when playing the game because it implied that she had given up on the war and was trying to seek out her own life and own existence and only joins the war again when it literally comes to her directly. So I decided to take this idea and draw her sitting at her campfire alone like she is in the final mission, just quietly living her life.
For the drawing itself I wanted to try out more of a painted style so after I did my sketch I tried to exclusively use paint brush tools in Krita. I gotta say it was a fun experiment and I really want to try something like this again soon, but I did definitely make a ton of mistakes and am not particularly good at painting or working in colour. There were some other errors as well like the fire pit being a bit awkward and kasha's legs also being off. I think I should have spent more time on background details as well like the shrubbery and firepit stones, I really think I should have gone over those with a smaller detail brush instead of the larger brush this way I could have really gotten somemore detail in there with my highlighting and shading. As for Kasha herself I'm actually quite pleased with how alot of the colours and shading came out on her, it took alot of work but it was worth it. Although I will say I gotta definetly learn a lot more and put even more work in next time if I want it to look better in future pieces, but atleast it's a start. My next piece I'm not 100% sure what I'll draw, I started playing the Redwall Scout Anthology game recently so maybe one of the mice from that. Alrighty thats all I have to say about this piece.
