"I've been traveling from city to city for almost a year running from the incoming tide of swamp folk, swamp dwellers were always a plague on these lands but right now their numbers seem endless and they are supported by numerous powerful witches who corrupt the land and bring the dead back to life with their cursed root magic, I've witnessed dozens of cities and bastions try to repel the swamp folk and they all fell to the putrid horde...In my travels I been trying to warn kingdoms in advance but even with time to prepare it seems no one stand a chance!
In the beginning of my travels I was accompanied by a caravan of 300 refugees from several ravaged villages...once we arrived the gates of Rodentia we were no more than 16, our group fell victim to countless ambushes of the swamp folk, many were devoured alive or consumed by dark magic, we were traumatized and running out of places to hide, Rodentia is the last standing bastion in this realm and thankfully they let us in.
Thanks to the privilege of being a Zeedrakii noble I was granted an audience with the recently crowned queen Rita the first, I wasted no time and showed her entire court the horrors that were encrounching using my magic, it was painful to relive those memories but I had to show them the truth, Panic was widespread trough among the court, but the queen was adamant, she was not afraid. she understood the dimension of the treath but she was confident about the defenses of her kingdom.
The queen gave us a tour of the city defenses as reassurance that Rodentia is more ready than ever to fight the swamp tide, first I was taken to the massive siege break mortars, giant monsters of steel capable of launching massive explosive projectiles kilometers away from the city, they were surely a impresive feat of engeneering but they didnt seemed very efective against the swamp folk...they arent exactly the kind of enemy that will beseige you with trebuchets, same for the large cannons all over the walls, would they be effective agianst the undead hordes? or jus a waste of steel and gunpowder?
Then we got introduced to the smaller artillery pieces in the lower walls, smaller cannons with multiple barrels...those were more interesting, they could be fired faster and were theoreticaly more efective against a group of small foes, not to mention they could be loaded with grapeshot, what was deadly idea...by the end of the tour the queen ofered me the chance of firing one of their famous Rodentian matchlock muskets, first the soldiers showed how to shoot against a wodden target, I got the hang of it easily, the recoil and the powder flash was dreadful but the impact surely was devasting...but I asked about the efectiveness against flesh and the queen offered me a grim oportunity, they brougth to the firing range a swamp folk prisoner, a disgusting and agressive large frog man...she told me to see it for myself...
I loaded the musket and aimed to the chest of the creature, I normally would not execute a prisoner like this...but swamp folk deserve it...I pulled the trigger without hesitation and the bullet hit the chest of the moster oppening a huge hole from the front to its back...one shot and it was dead...amazing! bows usualy take several dozen arrows to bring such creature down meanwhile this weapon could kill it in a single shot! now that I had the opportunity to test first hand the Rodentian weapons technology...I can't deny I'm impressed!...perhaps Rodentia can truly resist against the swamp tide!"
