I haven't read the story that this was based on, so I'm wondering what will come next.
Part of me really wants it to be that whatever ritual separated the clan borked when Daryil ascended, and that no one has been born of their clan since he ascended. Not just Richard. No one. But then we run into the trouble of how did Daryil not know?
